The Vet Visit (Hedgehog)

Bianca (one of my hedgehogs) got a piece of hair wrapped around her leg sometime before Thursday.  I noticed something on her leg when I went to check on them and was horrified when I saw how tightly it was bound.  I was able to get it off, but it had cut off circulation to part of her foot and it was all swollen and purple.  I rinsed it with peroxide and put Neosporin on it.  When I called to get her into the vet, I was told the vet that sees exotics wasn't in on Saturday.  I asked if they knew of anyone else and she went and talked to the vet.  One of them agreed to see her after talking to the vet that does treat exotics.  This morning we went in.  He wasn't too sure how to get a look at the leg, so I suggested I hold her and put her leg through my fingers.  That worked and he was able to get a look at the leg.  He said the leg looked like it was healing well, but he gave her an antibiotic to make sure nothing gets infected.  Hopefully she will eat in on her own, if not I will have to crush it and mix it in water to put in her mouth.  He said hedgehogs cannot get most antibiotics, so there weren't as many options.
