But I guess you could cook the rice and mix it with the fish, torn/cut into bite-sized pieces (if you like fish), cook the beans with the tarragon, salt and pepper added to both beans and rice mixture, serve them together.
Now use the buttermilk to mix up some some muffins with blueberries in them (use muffin mix, lol - something I would not do for real...) and serve them with a bracing cup of tea. I would offer whipped cream with the muffins for those who want it!
I would let you all share the rice with fish and beans, then have a dessert party with anyone who wants to come!
I love cooking with buttermilk, John, but I would never drink it!
extras: cream cheese, fresh garlic, lemon juice
Cook rice according to package. While hot stir in tarragon, chunked fish, lemon juice, garlic and cream cheese.
Simmer snipped beans in buttermilk and tarragon. Serve with rice dish.
Hard-boiled eggs
Green peas (fresh or frozen, not canned)
Diced tomatoes
Brown-rice Kedgeree and Indian-Style Beans
Prepare brown rice according to package directions and keep warm.
Poach the smoked haddock (fish of choice) in the buttermilk, seasoned with a little tarragon and some ground pepper, until tender. Break up the poached fish into small pieces.
Steam green peas.
In a large bowl, combine rice, poached fish, and green peas. Stir to combine well and turn out onto serving platter. Garnish with slices of hard-boiled egg. Dust with ground (cayenne) pepper.
Trim yellow string beans and cut into short, even lengths. Parboil. Bring a mixture of diced tomatoes, and cayenne pepper to a simmer in a large saucepan. Add beans, chopped tarragon, about 1 cup water and 1/2 - 1 tsp. salt. Boil, reduce back to a simmer and cook until beans are tender. Turn heat up to high and cook until most of the liquid evaporates, leaving beans in a thick, tangy, spicy tomato sauce.
Serve as an accompaniment to the kedgeree.
I would actually try that, and I am not fond of smoked fish.
