Was wondering if anyone else got the smaller version of Kraft Food and Family this season? My Mom got the big issue with lemon cupcakes on the cover but my daughter, Sarita's was a smaller version with only one or two things the same as Mom's. At first we thought it was a new additional magazine but after reading more it says it's the new convenient size to take shopping with you and replaces the older version. I couldn't figure out why Mom got a big different one for Spring 2008. I think I like the bigger version better. If you get the free Kraft Food and Family Magazine which version did you get for Spring 2008?
The recipes are different and the cover is totally different too. I think it has one or maybe two recipes the same as Mom's (Quick Peach Crisp for one) and a few of the ads are the same. It is the size of a Readers Digest or the food check out type booklets but very thin. It says Simple shortcuts on the cover. I do like the fact it has some, what they call fun and games in it. It has one of those puzzles with the letters and you find food words. I did have fun doing that. On that page it says to check out nabiscoworld.com for more puzzles and games. Also on the back cover is a food trivia quiz, which was fun as well.
The recipes are mostly picture type ones and very few. It says on the inside front "Hot off the presses: simple shortcuts, the new magazine from Kraft food and family........" You'll find easy directions and pictures of all the ingredients you need..........." While this replaces the Kraft food and family magazine in your mailbox, you can still access it by visiting kraftfoods.com/ff
We're really happy to be able to send this to you. We hope you like it. Let us know at kraftfoods.com/shortcuts or 800-278-5072"
I found out from the second link you can get one of the magazines at your address but not both and they now have two separate magazines. Not sure why they changed some peoples subscriptions and not others. Maybe we should just keep this one since Mom gives us hers if we don't get one which happens sometimes. Even though I like the recipe format of the original big versiion there are some fun things in the simpler smaller version. I think the smaller version would be wonderful for beginning cooks especially, and fun for foodies with the puzzles and food trivia.
The site says the Food and Family is available on line but that Simple shortcuts is not. You can change your subscription by calling the 800 number if you want to change from one to the other. It also says you can do that on line but I haven't figured that out yet since the only option I've seen so far is to cancel not change from one to the other. If you don't get either free magazine then visit either site and sign up for your free subscription. It is sent out four times per year. One issue for each season. They have great ideas, tips, recipes, information about new foods from Kraft, and best of all it's free.

Donna and Alta, did you like the small one or do you perfer the big one?
Toni, LisaB, and DebraG, they're great mags and free. If you enjoy cooking and trying new recipes or just drooling over glossy foodie shots you should sign up to get yours too.
Elaine, do you usually get it and yours just hasn't come? That's happened to us sometimes. Mom gets one and it takes forever for ours to show up or it doesn't at all.
Richard, thanks for the ideas. I think I'll just take Mom's copy of the big version and keep getting the small version. Best of both worlds that way.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
J-Frugal Mom, you're the first person I've heard of getting both. I agree I prefer the big issue. Better recipes I think.
Thanks Ed and Austin.
