This simple splint basket is known as a Nantucket Lightship Basket because the style originated in the 1860s on the island of the coast of Massachusetts. These handmade baskets have been prized for over a century for their craftsmanship and durability. I recently worked at an auction in New Hampshire where this basket sold for $1,100.
