Did you see the piece about a gun manufacturer who is coming out with red, purple, pink and green guns? They look just like toys, but of course, they deny they look anything like toys.

While I dont really agree whit anything you are saying, Props for speaking your mind.

I just think that if there were to be a gun ban then the only people who would still have guns would be the people who dont follow the law.

I own a gun and I have never shot anyone. Only the nutty people end up on the news not the rest of us.

I do not like guns.

Misty, I am from Texas, where almost everyone has a gun. I am not talking about a total gun ban. If there were tighter restrictions, perhaps we would have so many schools and work place shootings. It seems that it is too easy to buy a gun.

And what would those be, Juan? If it were possible to predict a Johnson, that would be one thing, I don't see where more regulation is the answer for anything but excuses for government control. Not what I'd like to see.

Doing nothing is not the answer. Doing away with laws such as the D.C. ban is not the answer either.

Juan, even though Johnston's actions are reprehensible, I still don't want to give up my constitutional right to keep and bear arms. How are we supposed to protect ourselves from the likes of Blackwater when the neocons declare martial law and use mercenaries to coerce us to do whatever? My .22 is staying in my closet and my stock of bullets will be maintained.

I do think something else needs to be done with gun regulation in this country. I don't want to totally ban guns and take someone's second amendment rights away from them, but maybe some kind of psychological testing before buying a gun would help. that would ensure that someone who is responsible and law abiding could still have a gun, while weeding out the people who only appear that way

I agree with Ellen. I do not adovocate a total ban, but something does need to be done in order to insure more wackos like this siminly normal NRA poster child are barred from getting thier psyco hands on a gun.

wow, I hadn't heard about that, but that's horrible. I definitely support restrictions. Not a total ban, obviously, but it shouldn't necessarily be so easy to get a hold of certain things.

Very tragic..mental illness is the cause here..granted the gun made killing so much quicker and easier..but he could have dispatched those people he hated or targeted for destruction in another manner..like that grounds keeper in Scotland who killed all those school aged children in a play ground with a claw hammer a few years back...
If one is disturbed enough with murder or destruction as their fixation ,they will get the job done..
In this country we do not take mental health( or even physical health maintenance) seriously as so many do not have access to MH financial support..or enough clinics..doctors etc. many health insurance plans do not cover or only partially fund mental health.
I am not in support of banning guns.
I do believe certain guns should be taken back off the market...certain hand guns,(and certain bullets like the kevlar tipped shells fashioned to penetrate bodyarmor should be banned from production) and rifle/machine guns like the Kalashnikov..(AK 47)our government removed this weapon of war from the gun ban a few years ago and now they are on the streets..police armory is trying to keep up with the criminals.

I do believe that if all guns were banned criminals and privileged would still have their market for guns..
Another issue is security..gunmen are getting into hospitals more frequently because of the situation in many large cities and smaller towns with the illegal drug community,gang violence and theft of supplies..hospitals are easy targets...many larger hospitals have installed metal detectors to remove knives and guns from 'visitors' and stepped up security..locking down at night.
I know ,sadly,the issue of rage killing is multifaceted and complex.It will take a multifaceted approach to mitigate the problem.
