Just a reminder: tomorrow is the day!
I am so happy to be seeing signs all around me.... our township is participating, and also the cities where I go to school (Barrie & Sudbury) .... all of the university and college campuses are also in, one way or another... I've been getting emails from both schools, and reading about it in the paper, and hearing about it on talk radio and seeing it everywhere.... At least here in Canada, Earth Hour is getting excellent coverage.
In fact, The Toronto Star's map ran out of room to stick all of the businesses & organizations that are participating here in Ontario, so they ended up just publishing a list, instead.
The sign-up server also hit overload - so many people were trying to sign up that it crashed. Don't worry though - they've fixed it - if you haven't signed up yet, you still can.
For quite some time, we Canadians - even with our 1/10th of the US' population - was far in the lead for the number of people who had signed up ..... the US is now though...but:
On a per capita basis, though, Australia leads at about one in 420 people signed up; Canada has one in 606 and the U.S. one in 5,347.
Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don't forget to sign up and join Earth Hour.
And for all of you who have not only committed to participating, but also contributed by posting articles to the group and talking to people about Earth Hour... thank you... I'm looking forward to reading your Earth Hour articles this weekend.

if you think about what happens after a blackout it makes sense, actually ... in the case of a blackout, the power in an area often all comes back on all at once... and it manages
at the end of Earth Hour, it is pretty unlikely that everyone is going to fire up everything at the exact same instant - far LESS load at any given moment
I should get some candles to play Scrabble by, I think :)
I LOVE Scrabble
Sounds good Flit!
I waited until closer to the date because I'm forgetful, and then signed up at work for Binghamton -- or tried to, anyway. I started talking about it, and at least three of my co-workers decided it was a great idea and they're going to participate as well. It's going to be interesting to see the follow-up stories, too. I'm sure others in my area are participating, but there was no way to find each other through the site.
I'm sure we can come up with ~something~ to kill an hour with power
