Hannah the photos didn't come through, they are just little boxes with a red x in them. I know what article you are referring to though, for those of you reading before she gets the photos fixed, it is a photo of highschool kids taking down the American flag then putting up the Mexican Flag with the American one underneath it inverted.

My opinion will probably make everyone mad but I don't think this is all that bad of a protest. I would rather see them do this then start shooting people or declaring war and bombing us and stuff. I am not sure how I feel personally on the issue of integration but I do feel if you are in the United States (or any country for that matter) you should respect its laws and rules. As for immigration laws aren't we ourselves immigrants coming over from England or whereever we came from? Only true Native Americans can lay claim to the ownership of this country and what we did to them to take it from them was reprehensible. I am not saying we deserve the same in return or anything but the saying is "What goes around comes around" . Personally I don't see why we can't all just live in peace. I hate politics, I don't think our system of government has been effective for the last 25-50 years at least simply because of the level of corrupt officials is completely insane. I feel we should also ditch the electoral vote ENTIRELY and go with popular vote.
These are just my opinions and who knows they may change when my mood is better but for now this is my opinion! Blessings to you!

Even though this happened 2 years ago, and I saw the picture, it should boil the blood of every American. These people come to our country, some don't even learn our language we have to learn theirs, we pay for their kids to get an education, medical care, they get our benefits that WE worked for and then they pull crap like this. Send them all HOME WHERE THEY BELONG.

I've seen it and Glenn Beck talked about it a year ago. He finds stuff that newspapers don't want to print. One I've never seen on the net was last year when a group of illegals came OVER the border on humvee's with 50cal weapons and fired on our border guards.
That confrontation line has been moving more into the US. They are better armed and supplied than our guards are, my guess is they are the cartels with infinite money.
These cartels will do anything for money ... including bringing over ANYONE with the money.
For those that are too busy going to the malls, the terrorists are not just in Iraq, they are here and they are planning. And Clinton and Obama want open borders AND to legalize all here, this includes the terrorists! Good choice America.

I appreciate your sincere opinion but I disagree that only Native Americans can lay claim to the ownership of this country. "We"did nothing to any Native Americans and most contacts between Indians and White settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries were peaceful and friendly.
As for laying claim, how about the tombstones in Arlington NAtional Cemetary of thousands of military people who died in World War II foghting to defend the country. That's a A-1 claim to ownership in my book. For those folks too young to remember World War II here's a little perspective. In 6 years, about 4,000 US troops have died in Iraq. In the battle of Iwo Jima (Feb 1945), 6,281 US Marines died, in 4 days. Two months later another battle at Okinawa was even worse.
I'd say we lay claim, without a doubt.

When you die, develop, improve, protect ... yeah I'd also say that lays claim.

Certainly the benefits of those contracts can be seen today, Robert. Much of what the Native Americans held dear is gone. The language of my ancestral tribe is almost dead. I could go on, but this is about modern immigrants, not past ones.

Perhaps the people of the United States could take a lesson from our history, and not make the same mistakes with our illegal immigrants that my Native American ancestors did with the European immigrants. Obviously, such openness, trust, and faith in human nature is unwarranted, and unless modern America realizes that, the United States will go the way of the confederacy that was called Iroquois Nation.

True Americans do not need to turn the flag into a holy relic to exercise their patriotism. The flag-as-national-fetish movement is blind with rage over the latest wave of immigrants. Before they wanted to send the Mexicans home, they wanted to send the Puerto Ricans home and before that they wanted to send the Poles home, and earlier the Irish and Italians and all Catholics, of course, and earlier still they wanted to banish Germans from immigrating into the USA. The English wanted to throw the French out and the Dutch, good Calvinists all, rejected anyone not Dutch.

Somehow, through all the anger and forgotten history, our nation has grown great and prospered. Immigrants will always want to come here as they have in wave after wave; and our country will enrich itself as it has for so long.

Confusing our flag with our nation is dangerous. Every people who have have joined us for over 200 years were reviled for not being respectful Americans who look like we who were here before. I'll bet some of the loudest comments here are descendents of immigrants who have forgotten the blessings of an open society.

The Cubans were mostly all criminals so yeah we tried to turn them away but our govt. had another agenda, so they came. If all you write is true, Tom (and do not cede these points automatically), what would you do about the invasion you describe? Your current tactics (publishing generalized attacks on latinos, shouting inflammatory language, claiming facts you don't support) won't do much to address the problems you lament.

What, Tom, would you do about this hit on the American people? I can agree that as soon as we stop wasting our wealth in the middle east we need to bolster security at the border (including the removal of armed vigilantes), but what about the invasion force of 20 million? Put them all on trains to internment camps until we can ship them back? Pull them off the farms and construction sites and Walmarts and see the economies of half a dozen states implode? Yank young latino citizens from their sinister undocumented parents and find them good homes in the suburbs?

What practical, humane, American approach would you propose, Tom? Or would you use criteria other than practical, humane and American to judge possible solutions to this problem?

Solutions are not hard to find. It is the will of the politicians that is the stumnling block.
1. Secure the border with full double fencing and beefed up Border Patrol.
2. Stop document fraud and establish a national ID system bio metrically (this is already being done).
3. Enforce the 1986 IRCA Act banning the hiring of illegal aliens and jail employers who violate it.
4. Crackdown on Mexico who has deliberately been promoting this invasion for
their own profit. This could be diplomatically, econmically, or militarily, if necessary.
5. Illegals will return home on their own, once they're locked out of the US job
market, and Mexico (et al countries) start properly providing for them.
As for employers here, anyone able and willing to pay a decent wage, will have no trouble finding American workers to do anything.

Sadly the word ILLEGAL says it all. We have laws to control immigration. If you want to come herre go through the proper channels. If people want to pay udner the table less than minimum wage to illegal workers dport the workers arrest and jail the employers for a long time. I have nothing against people wanting to come here but I want them to come legally and pay taxes and be treatedto the same legal protections on wages and workman comp etc. that all American workers chould have. Yes it iwll be sad to break up families that came here illegally but they made the choice to break the law no us and they should pay the penalty not us. If I steal from someone i get arrested and jailed if they steal jobs and social services by being here illegally send them back. Yes using social services if you are here illegally is stealing. The preson who use them have not paid into the system and the system is here for those who are part of this country legally including legal immigrants citizen or not that does not matter. Sorry folks but we need to solve the problems of thoselegally even if those who are here Illegally are forced to pay a price for breaking the law. Lets end this as I began. If you break the law be prepared tp pay the price.

But did you know it is against the law to fly the flag of the USA inverted except in the case of a national emergency? Did you know also, that it is against the law to fly a flag or pennant or banner above the flag of the USA when flown on American soil or possessions with the exception that the Chaplains pennant can be flown above the USA flag on a vessel at seas and only during religious services. So you see they are disobeying the very laws of this country that would get me in a heap of trouble if I were to disobey. Besides, what purpose did it serve? It was just their way of showing disrespect.

Ray Turner, obviously you are ill-informed. I don't know how old you are but I can remember the immigrants from the post WWII era. They were grateful to be here, some even kissed the soil when they landed here. They came, they learned the language, they swore allegiance, they obtained jobs legitimately, and they joined the mainstream of American culture. Very, very different from what is happening today
Confusing the flag with our nation is NOT dangerous. It is respected by most around the world and represents a great free nation. Many young men and women have died for that flag. Have you ever heard of Iwo Jima? If I were you I don't think I would make that comment in front of a US Marine.

What exactly was the protest about? Were these citizens with hispanic background or were they illegal? As a citizen, I have the right to protest my country's policy (although I find the flag incident a bit disturbing). As a non-citizen, legal or not, it's rude at best. It's time for us to come to an understanding of the"rights" of illegal aliens. They have none. They are criminals whose very presence indicates the level of respect they have for the laws of this country.

I did know that what they did is illegal, but for that matter so is displaying the flag in any form other than what it is intended as. That means all of us wearing it on our clothes to show support to the troops are also breaking the law!

I did not say I agreed with what they did, I just said I was glad it was a peaceful protest and not one with people being murdered!
