Great information. I love audiobooks. In my former job I traveled within the state na lot and I often listened to them on the road. Once in a while I would get so wrapped up in the story I'd even miss my exit!

Listening is good, but it isn't reading. I think playing enough of the book to really absorb a child and then giving them the actual book to finish is fun.

Reading sure is an important skill. But there are lots of studies that show how beneficial listening to literature is for kids.

my children came to live with me at the age of 12 both I had to teach to read. No they could read but did not read. The trick was to find something the kids want to read. Just like you and I we have different things we like. Well the kids do to. They like to be able to pick what they read about. Both my kids learned to enjoy reading. I think this helped them do much better in school, learning to read for enjoyment.

I took a brief look.. Do they even have books for the second grade level? I didn't see any off hand.

Thanks for the info. Although my kiddos are just about grown up, I write for children occasionally, so I love to keep up with what's out there!
