Hedgehog Babies, 28 days old now

The babies are 28 days old.  They are now eating solid food, but still trying to nurse.  I got a few pictures.  I will get more this weekend.  (If you want to see them bigger, just click on the picture in the corner and you can scroll through them.)

They are so cute. She is kinda little. I love them. I would love to have one but they are pretty hard to take care of aren't they?

Vivian, they do eat cat food. They make a hedgehog food, but it is mostly fillers, so most use a high quality cat food (that doesn't list corn as the first ingredient like the hedgehog food!).

Robin, I did not find them; mine had babies. One litter was abandonded by the mother (she escaped from the cage), so the other mother is raising all of them.

Aniko, they usually start to get hard by 2-3 days old. The spikes are pretty soft when they are first born.

They're so cute, but don't they get all prickly eventually? Or are they prickly now? I don't know how that works. I've never even seen a hedgehog until the first pictures I saw of yours. LOL

Victoria, they are not, but they do not poke you unless their quills are up. These babies are so used to being picked up they rarely ball up, so their quills are flat against their back. When they do, I usually scoop up some bedding to protect my hand, then once they are in your hand they open up and have a soft belly.
