When I lived in Ohio, I had springfever from midwinter. I couldn't wait to take trail hikes and see nature unfold. Now that I live in Florida, it's during the rainy season, that I seem to have spring fever as it gets muggy hot.

Having lived in Wisconsin, I can commiserate.

Now that I am farther south, the signs are that odd green smell in the morning when I get up to go to the gym, and the fact that the moon rides with me on the way out but not on the way back.

Our garden is soaked from recent rains, and we are ready to start churning it up again, although not to plant yet.

About this time of the year, I start longing for the ocean. I don't even swim, but I love to be near the water and hear the waves and smell the salt air, and as soon as it should be Spring, I get serious ocean fever, so that is my brand of spring fever. Actually, I get serious wanderlust to go ANYWHERE.

The flower buds appear way too soon for their own good these days, teased by the climate changes that are not really taking place (according to GB) but they signal that Spring is not far away. Then the pine trees unleash their yellow rain upon the cars, the wooden porch, the leaves that still are upon the ground. The squirrels that denned under my porch eave and had delighted the cat by scampering along the porch railing as if to tease him (as he sat behind the glass on the window sill) have now gone off to forage in the trees and sleep in a newly constructed bed in the crook of the neighbors oak. And my little tomato and pepper seedlings are longing to be in the ground instead of their bedding flats and finally, I think the last cold night has come. These are all signs of Spring in my neck of the woods in Florida.

I saw my first Robin a couple of weeks ago, in a snowstorm. Poor little fatty-fat. He looked pretty miserable, sitting in my crabapple tree.

I can't wait 'til the first good rain... the next morning, the grass looks so green it almost hurts my eyes!

With most of the gray, dirty snow melted away, I find myself obsessively walking along my gardens, looking for signs of life. Actually, I'd worry if things started popping up THIS early, 'cos they'd end up freezing at some point between now and May. I just want to see COLOR again! Is that too much to ask?

For me it is the first whiff of warm earth. It is the scent of a breeze blowing over a thousand miles of prairie.

When the squirrels start to get "frisky" at the end of Feb. It reminds me that soon we will see bebe squirrelikins playing in our front yard Linden!
