Hubby made a vegan choc cake one time that was really good, it was a different recipe than this, but this sounds delish too!

I hear ya on the expensive eggs...
Ours are about 1.99/dozen at most of our stores. Luckilly we get WIC so I get 2 dozen free a month, but we eat a lot of eggs, so we usually end up buying atleast 1 or 2 dozen more. On the weekends I always cook eggs for breakfast, and we use them a lot for baking.

Shannon, Starting before Christmas I started not buying eggs because of the price. At one point when I checked they were 2.92 a dozen and that was just bizarre to me. I'm still holding off, only breaking down for deviled eggs for Easter. Hope this cake tastes good. I'm willing to try.

Wow, that's even worse Lynn! I heard that flour has doubled, but I have not verified that yet.

I have an old chocolate cake recipe from the 1950s that had soda and vinegar, no eggs...I'll have to go see if this is it. I baked it in ice cream cones...mom did it in a 9x11 glass pan.

I make eggless things all the time (my fat problem)...they are sometimes a little rubbery and heavy! It's always an experiment when I bake!

I don't have a flute pan either. Eggs here were getting close to 2 bucks a dozen...I just watch for sales.

I think everything is going up because of the price of gas sto haul it around the country and globe...and then, that's a good excuse for others.

I'm bad about looking at prices. I work fulltime (vacation this week), so I don't have time to chase sales. I would love to "retire"...

OH yeah, flour has doubled. I snatched up a couple of bags for 2 bucks a piece last week on sale, the name brand flours were close to 5 bucks a bag!

We have a Spartan store downtown. Maybe I'll stop in and see how much eggs are. I rarely shop there either, they never have really good stuff. I just use it for the fill ins, like milk.

It's crazy how expensive food has gotten.

I did buy flour in bulk at Costco...and froze it in ziplock freezer bags...I'm almost out.

We normally use egg beaters (since my mom is allergic to dairy), but now my daughter is (2 mo has an allergy toward break down- so we will have to watch her too). Thanks for sharing. Sounds good.
