In December 2007, Hillary Clinton spoke about her 1996 trip to Bosnia and said that, "we landed in one of those corkscrew landings and ran out because they said there might be sniper fire."
On March 17, Clinton described the same trip but said that she now remembers "landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."
In her book, Living History, Hillary wrote that there were reports of gunfire but does not mention hearing or seeing it on her way to Tuzla.
Washington Post published photos of the visit on March 22, which clearly show that Clinton did not run with her head down. Instead, she was greeted on the airstrip by the U.S. and Bosnian officials, while an 8-year-old Bosnian girl read a poem to her in English.
The war in Bosnia ended in December 1995. After the Dayton peace agreement was signed, there was no fighting in the country, and especially not in Tuzla, the city where Clinton, her then 16-year-old daughter, a comedian, and a singer landed. The airport where they landed and its surrounding were under full control of the US army.
Michael Dobbs, an American reporter who was in Bosnia soon after the peace agreement was signed, says that "the physical risks were minimal during this period, particularly at a heavily fortified U.S. Air Force base, such as Tuzla. Contrary to the claims of Hillary Clinton and former Army secretary Togo West, Bosnia was not "too dangerous" a place for a visit."
Dobbs emphasizes that "had Hillary Clinton's plane come under sniper fire in March 1996, we would certainly have heard about it long before now."
According to Dobbs, a review of nearly 100 news accounts of her visit shows that not a single newspaper or television station reported any security threat to the First Lady.
Politicians lie. That's a fact. They lie to get elected and to stay in power. Some lie about other countries so they can justify invading them. Others lie so they can portray themselves as experienced leaders.
It's just pathetic that Hillary Clinton would openly lie about things that are so easy to check. I know this is politics, but still, people are not as stupid as she perceives them to be.
