The Bible's No. 1 Promise.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)

God: The onmipotent Creator, loving, sovereign, holy, all-wise, ever-present, compassionate God who flund a hundred billion or more galaxies into space merely by speaking.

So loved: His love is unconditional and inexhaustible.

He gave: a gift that can never be earned by our good works, but can be received only by faith.

His only begotten Son: The most precious, priceless gift ever given, Jesus

That whosoever: You and I and every person who inhabits the world.

Believeth in Him: believes that He is the Son of God and the Savior of the world, the one who died on the cross for the sins of all people everywhere and who was raised from the dead.

Should not perish: Should not be eternally separated from God. "The Lord...is not willing that any should perisn" (2Peter 3:9)

But have everlasting life: not only in heaven, but also on earth.

Sorry, Ellen but once you said "omnipotent" the rest is meaningless. There are no restrictions on omnipotence. God can lie and not love and so on. There is nothing I can imagine being able to say about an omnipotent being with any confridence at all. Nothing I experience has any necessary meaning with an omnipotent God. You may have faith and I am confident that you do, but that faith is faith *in people* about God. If people had not told you about God I doubt you would believe in a God.

Larry brings up an interesting point. If no one ever told me about God - would I believe in a higher power? Is it part of our human nature to believe there has to be more than our lives here and now?

I believe many of us would. It's been proven that when missionaries approach people who have never heard about God that they have "felt" him or sensed Him.

Marilyn, that is exactly right. We will always seek God in some form or another, and that will eihter be God or a pseudo god. Thankfully God revealed himself. Whether people pass on that experience or not, personal experience is necessary for a relationship with God. That's why a personal relationship with Christ is necessary. I thought this was well said.
The Bible is very clear that God is omnipotent but also good and loving and righteous too.
There is no lying or cheating or not loving in him.
