What is your favorite military movie? There are so many movies, about so many different time periods from the Revolutionary War to the Iraq War, and so many different perspectives from Private Benjamin to Stripes and The Patriot to Full Metal Jacket, which is your favorite?

The Battle of Midway was good too.
Five American soldiers fighting in Europe during World War II struggle to return to Allied territory after being separated from U.S. forces during the historic Malmedy Massacre.
The tension of the situation rises to a crescendo and then rises impossibly beyond that. As Denzel's character says to a radio operator (and I'm paraphrasing wildly here): "You've got two minutes to get me radio communication or six billion people die. Now I know that's a shitty deal, but that's what it is."
In a voice cracking with fear and stress the operator says: "yes, sir".
Great movie.
Yes, I went through a "war movie" phase....
Congratulations on your Gather homepage feature, here's a 10 rating & have a nice day.
Saving private Ryan and Band of Brothers are also very good.
In my experience, the best novel about war is "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara. "Gettysburg" is the film version of that book, and the book has it beat by far.
M*A*S*H
Catch 22
Paradise (Glenn Close ~ WWII years)
Friendly Persuasion (Gary Cooper ~ Civil War era)
Love is a Many Splendored Thing (William Holden ~ WWII years)
Dr. Zhivago (Omar Sharif, Julie Christie ~ Russian Civil Revolution/1917-1920 era)
Get the tissues.................
ZULU!
Then there is "Paths of Glory".
"Band Of Brothers" is excellent.
"A Town Like Alice" is pretty interesting, but not strictly military.
The Frank Capra "Why We Fight" series is something that Americans should see and think about rather than blindly accepting that all war and violence is bad and unnecessary.
"Black Hawk Down"
Oh and don't forget Schindlers List. That is one of the very best I've ever seen.
Missing from the list is Lawrence of Arabia (WW I), one of my all time favorites, includes a stunning performance by Peter O'Toole.
Stalag 17 and the Great Escape also from WW II.
