I posted a photo the other day. Someone made reference to the nostrils of the snake in the photo. It made me think long and hard about the snake in the picture. I couldn't sleep at night. I was tormented by the question. Why? Why? Why? I finally resolved my consternation by writing this haiku. Flicking his tongue out, He uses it for smelling. Then, why the nostrils?

Loved it.
very good.
This is truly a brilliant haiku ~
I am so taken with the fact that it asks the reader a question thereby spinning the reader back out into truly reflecting upon their world.
And as far as the nostrils and toungue thing for snakes go ~ ~ ~
well, I am not an authority on snakes ,so I stand open to correction, though I would gander that for an insight into an answer a person would need to think outside the "box" of human expirience ~ ~ ~
`
Like how ???????
Perhaps the answer (or a clue to an answer ) lies in the idea/fact that all the kazillion billion tastes in this world are smells to a snake ~ ~ ~
snakes smell through the langusge of taste OR perhaps snake taste through the language of smell.
AND as far the snakes nostrils are concerned ???
Well ~ perhaps the nostrils of a snake function the way the pores of our bodies do ~
I believe we breath through our pores as well as our noses and we do not recieve any messages of "smell" through the pores of our bodies.
