After we left Portland, We drove down I-95 to Ogunquit. The rain was very bad by this time and there was a lot of spray on the road. We took our time. We reached the hotel around 2:30. Check in time was supposed to be 3, but they were kind enough to let us check in early. We stayed at Seacastle Resort Inn & Suites. http://www.ogunquitbeach.com/seacastles/index.cfm I got a great deal on a very nice room. We had a studio apartment with a kitchenette. It was pouring rain when we got there and we grabbed everything from the car and made a mad dash and just kinda dropped everything when we got into the room. It was a mess before I thought to take a picture of the room. Hubby did take a picture of the main building of the hotel from our building.

We just hung out in the room for a while and watched some Food Network shows. We decided to go up to Moody for dinner to a small place called The Haystack. We usually go there for breakfast when we're in the area and decided to try it for dinner. I ordered the turkey dinner. I couldn't believe the amount of food that they gave me. The turkeyslices were about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. There were two slices piled on top of a large service of stuffing with gravy drizzled over top. There was a large portion of mashed potatoes, fresh peas, butternut squash and a cup of cranberry sauce. I was barely able to touch the meal so we brougt the leftovers back to the room.
While we were eating dinner, there were two couples who came in together and were seated at the next table. Hubby kept saying that the one lady looked familiar. I didn't know which one he was talking about. They started chatting with one of the servers and one said that they are from a town not far from mine. The other couple was from Rhode Island. Hubby assumes they were customers of his when he worked in retail. It was the lady from Rhode Island he recognized.
Since it was such a stormy night, we decided to head back to the room. We stopped at the front desk and rented a movie. They had VCRs in the rooms, so the selection was all older movies. I ended up choosing 102 Dalmatians with Glenn Close. I'd always wanted to see it and never got around to it. After the movie we went back to watching the Food Network. I love their shows. By this time I wasn't feeling very well. I had a very bad head and ear ache, so I took some Excedrin PM and went to bed.
The next morning hubby woke up before me, which is an oddity for a weekend. He was up, showered and ready to go by 7:30 when he decided I'd slept long enough. I was very annoyed. This was my birthday morning and I wanted to sleep! He won though because he was hungry. He snuck downstairs and took this picture while I was getting ready. It's a shot across the street towards the ocean.

We went and checked out of the hotel and decided to set off in search of food, but went to Ogunquitand Wells Beaches first. At Ogunquit Beach there were extreme high winds that were blowing me over. I braved it though because I really wanted to get closer to the beach and get some shots. The wind was picking up the sand and it was making such beatiful swirls. It was also picking up the water off the tops of teh waves before they crashed and blowing mist everywhere. I tried to capture it here, but it was difficult. The camera kept moving because the wind was blowing me off balance.

Next we went up to Wells Beach. It wasn't quite as windy there so we were able to spend more time outside. I got a few good shots, so it was very hard to narrow down which I wanted to include in the essay!

After the beach we decided to go back to the Haystack for breakfast. After we placed our order, the two couples from the previous evening walked in again. We kinda chuckled that they showed up at the same time again. I ordered the blueberry pancakes this time. This was the first time I was disappointed with a meal there. My pancakes were gummy and I had trouble cuitting them. I do have dequervaine's tendonitis in my right wrist, so the gummy pancakes wasn't helping. Trevor offered to cut them for me, but I was too embarassed to be seen having someone cut my pancakes for me!
After breakfast we went back down Route 1 through Ogunquit and decided to take the shore road down to Cape Neddick instead of the main road. We made a quick stop at Perkin's Cove in Ogunquit along the way. At this area of Perkin's Cove is the beginning of the trail for the Marginal Way. Its a beatiful trail that runs along the coast in Ogunquit. I'd been hoping the weather would be better and we could walk along the trail but it was much too cold and windy.

We stayed there for a few minutes and watched the waves crashing on the rocks. We then continued on our way down to Cape Neddick to my favorite lighthouse, Nubbles! I had to save the best for last for my birthday morning.

There were very high winds as well. We walked around for a few minutes but then got back in the car.

We were sitting there for maybe ten minutes when who do we see but the two couples from the restaraunt go walking down onto the rocks. By this time we were cracking up laughing. This was the final time we saw them on our little jaunt. We stayed and watched the water for a half an hour or so. The poor seagulls were hunkered down on the rocks as low as the possibly could go to protect themselves from the winds. Trevor was able to catch this next pic while we were sitting in the car.

After this we decided to stop in Kittery at the outlets. I love the Maine blueberry jam from the Kittery Trading Post. I had to stop and get some! After getting my stash of jam we decided to head home. I still wasn't feeling very well. Once we were out of Maine and into NH I fell asleep. I woke up again in Massachusetts near Marlboro, where I wanted to stop at Fashion Bug. I'd gotten a coupon for $10 off a $10 purchase and since we were going to be nearby I wanted to stop in and take advantage of it. The store was gone! I was so upset. In it's place was a Dollar Tree. This turned out well. During the driev home we'd decided to go to my father in law's for dinner. My sis in and and her girls are always there on Sundays. Trevor saw some kites and decided to take advantage of the windy day. We grabbed the kites and went to my dad in laws. He had a lot of fun playing with my nieces with the kites.
All in all it was a great birthday and one I will remember for a long time to come. I felt very pampered! =)
