I asked my Gather.com friends to pray that I would be able to get a dog a couple of weeks ago. That prayer was answered in a miraculous way today!
It appeared that my wife and I were headed for an impasse. She was not showing any signs of warming up to the idea of having a dog in our home.
I was sharing this perception with our daughter. I made mention of the fact that "I could have the backyard taken care of and a gate put up by the end of the week, but your mother is still not keen on the idea of having a dog." Amanda said "So let's get the backyard ready!" I then replied, "You know, the only way for Mom to get used to the idea is for us to go ahead and get the dog. What is she going to do between now and a year from now that would 'get ready' for a dog? We need to have one in the home; then she will be 'ready.'"
I shared this insight with my wife, who, surprisingly, agreed. I then informed her that I was calling the breeder in Indiana to make arrangements for a visit this weekend and I was going to tell her to reserve one black Standard Schnauzer pup for our family. Remarkably, she did not resist, but rather, was receptive to the idea!
This was nothing short of a miracle! A real answer to prayer if ever there was one; I can't describe just how dead-set against the idea of a dog my wife has been. I've been praying for the past 3 weeks; I filled out a prayer card at church, and I asked my Gather friends to pray.
All I can say is "To God be the glory, great things He has done."
Thank you so much for joining with me in prayer!

Nancy: Yes! I will!
My Dad couldn't stand animals in the house and now that Momm's been gone for 16 mos now, he can't stand for his cat Gussie to be out of his sight!
I was just on Amazon.com shopping for the VERY best dog training book. I settled on Good Owners, Great Dogs. It is going to be a great summer with Otto!

Today when my dog escaped under our chain link fence, my husband chased him down and caught him, brought him home, and fixed the fence. He also put fiberglass panels at the end of our covered dog kennels so there would be no wind, rain, or sun on the dogs when we put them out in the kennels for a few hours in nice weather when we go shopping or to work. My pit bull even sleeps with me at night. The dog has gone with us to the winterfest and to the tulip festival and other such places. Any place that we go that allows dogs, my dog goes. We even get him a hamburger and chicken nuggets at McDonalds.
