Film Takes Yet Another Shot at "Dune"

Berg to direct 'Dune' for Paramount

According to Variety, Peter Berg is set to direct yet another attempt at capturing Frank Herbert's classic "Dune" on film, this time for Paramount Pictures.

After the fiasco of the 1984 David Lynch filma and the less than riveting Sci Fi minseries in 2000, you'd think they might give up. But "Dune" does seem as though it ought to be perfect movie material, if only they can edit it down to a reasonable length while keeping the story intact and master the special effects.

One of the producers is Richard Rubenstein, in fact, who produced "Dune" and "Children of Dune" for Sci Fi.

Peter Berg was the producer of "The Kingdom" and "Friday Night Lights."

We'll keep our skeptical fingers crossed.

Skeptical indeed. I actually really like the 1984 version, and though the 2000 version wasn't great, it did have some good parts (much better effects, for one thing). I'll be interested in seeing who will be the new Muad'dib...

I think this could be an epic film if translated properly from the books...but I'm not feeling very optimistic. We'll see. Thanks for letting me know about this!
