My fickle lover, Summer
Has run from me again
And left me with another
Whose cold I do not ken.
Winter's arms have wrapped around me
The bonds are tight and cold.
I turned my eyes beseechingly,
As the sky turned white then snowed.
A speck of color I do seek
Amidst this muddled gray.
For all the palettes that I yearn
Have all been swept away.
My skin caressed
With warmth and light
Is what I most desire.
Bring it here to me once more
And set my soul on fire.
I know my Summer loves me
For a melody I hear,
As night air softly whispers
Into my upturned ear.
So hurry back to me, my love,
My summertime delight.
Please take away the cold, the gray
And endless winter night.
Yet, as a faithful lover
I eagerly await
For Spring to send a message
That Summer won't be late.
And sure enough,
A promise kept
As I looked up to the hills
And found them covered - all ablaze
With scores of daffodils.

I'm a Spring lover and so when the first signs of summer appear I feel like you do.
Your poem had a life in it as if it was eagerly waiting for the warmth. Wonderful.

Yes, perhaps the extremes in Michigan make us residents more inspired. You know....... the whole thing about no pain - no appreciation of beauty.
Now I am enjoying my lover Summer's embrace and it's hot, hot, hot! Just the way I like it. :-)
