The day after I posted my previous article on our puppy and her odd eating habits, I came home from work to find a huge mess! The dog had found a sealed bag of jelly beans I had just bought for Easter and hidden in the closet. The black ones made her sick and it was all over the floor in my bedroom and in the living room. She also got hold of the good portable phone that had been left on the coffee table. It took me a good half an hour to pick up pieces, scrub carpet and vacuum up all the chaos!
I was just livid. I mean, really aggravated and angry and about ready to surrender and find her a new home. My hubby really doesn't want to go that route and honestly, I don't want to deep down in my heart but there is only so much I am willing to take! He promised me he will block the bottom of the fence so she can't keep digging her way out, so she can get more exercise and use up some of that energy.
And we headed to the pet store yesterday and asked them to show us the most indestructible dog toys they sold! So far we have spent plenty of money trying to keep her in chew toys and busy bone treats but she annihilates these within minutes. The clerk suggested a Kong toy. My mother-in-law uses these and she did buy one for Cocoa, the eats-everything she-beast, who promptly buried it somewhere in the back yard! We decided to get a larger one, and so far it has kept her out of trouble. You can buy these special treats to stick inside the Kong, a sturdy thick rubber thing. It's not easy to get the treat in there, but that just means the dog has to work even harder to get it out! So we'll see how this goes. So far it has been 2 days and she has managed not to eat anything she shouldn't! A record . . . .
