American Idol Top 10 .. Bye Bye Amanda.

After only kinda-sorta following the first few seasons of AI, in the last few seasons I have become more of a heavy duty AI fan.. and now that we're down to the top 10 for this season, it's getting serious!  One of the things I don't love about AI is that it can very easily end up being a popularity contest, and the best talent doesn't always win.. Melinda Doolittle, for instance, got robbed!  Not that I don't think Jordin Sparks is very talented..she is.. but Melinda was the better singer IMO, and a lot of people's opinion..but she didn't have the personality..the star quality..the Idol "thing"...She wasn't memorable, so she got booted.  This is the same thing that happened to Amanda last night.  I love Amanda.. a lot of people didn't.. but she had her own style and she took songs and made them into her style, instead of changing her style to adapt more to the song.. she, too, did not fit the Idol mold, and now she's gone.  I thought for sure it would be Kristy that left last night, and I think she thought so too.  Don't get me wrong, I love Kristy too.. she's got a great voice, she's sweet and gorgeous, definite star potential..and I think she's got a kinda Trisha Yearwood thing goin on that I really like, but unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before she'll be gone.. probably next week..because, unfortunately for her, there is some very strong talent in this competition. 

Every season I've had my favorites.. Kelly Clarkson I loved right from the get-go..and still do!  My favorites aren't usually the ones who end up winning, but they have almost all gone on post AI to be bigger stars than the actual winner.  By this stage of the game I can usually give you the top 2 and figure out who is most likely going to win.   Season 5 stumped me, I will admit, I don't see how Taylor Hicks got to be be the winner out of that bunch.  I mean, really.. Season 5 you had Elliott, Katherine McPhee, Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler.. and Taylor Hicks wins?  not that he's not talented, I think he's great, and a good performer, but comparitively, I don't think he was the right guy...that was surely an example of talent being overshadowed by the popularity contest..

So, now we are down to the Top 10..and I'm really kinda stumped.  I like them all..some more than others..but they are all very talented and each have something that makes them likeable and the majority of  them could very easily be the next American Idol...To me, I think it's going to have to boil down to popularity this season, because you can't really fault any of them when it comes to talent.  The best I can do, at this point, is pick who I think the top 4 will.. or should.. boil down to..  David Cook, Michael Johns, Jason Castro.. and Carly Smithson.   Although, I will have to admit that, part of the reason I love Jason is that he not only has a great voice and lots of charm.. but he sure is purty!! I just love those eyes ..and that smile..and that ..errr.. never mind, I'm getting a little off topic here  LOL   Then again, David Cook and Michael aren't too hard on the eyes either.  

Rameille Mulabuy -  I love her voice, she has a lot of talent...she's got a lot going for her..and she's so little and cute..but she's kind of forgetable..she doesn't stand out, and in this bunch, stand out quality is gonna make or break them.  I think she'll go somewhere.. she'll do okay for herself, but I doubt she'll be the next Idol.

David Archuletta  -  He has a really awesome voice, and he's a great performer, especially for being so young, but I think he's too immature and a lot don't see him as being mature enough to be the next Idol.. plus, he doesn't need to win.  The music "people" are already gearing up to promote him and help him, so if he wins it would be kind of a shame.

Syesha - She's beautiful and I love her voice.. I really loved her performance this week.. but again, I don't know that she stands out enough to be the winner.. she could be a dark horse though.

Brooke - Personally, I just LOVE Brooke.. and I think she'll do okay even if she does get booted.  She's sweet and, of course, very talented, and a lot of people really like her.. I think, once she's on her own, she'll do fine, but up against the others in this competition, I just don't see her being the next Idol. 

Chikezie - Honestly, aside from his name, I really don't remember much about his performances.  Somewhere in my brain, I know that I have heard him sing and I've enjoyed it.. He sounds awesome..but nothing about him, aside from his name, sticks in my brain.  I don't know why, it's nothing about him, specifically, that gives me that impression, but I can see his face, I know the name, but there's nothing spectacular there.. yet.. he may surprise and pull out his A-game in the end.. but as of right now.. meh. 

Kristy  -  As I said above, I really like Kristy..I've always liked her from the start.  I think she's under rated and doesn't get enough credit ..or give herself enough credit.  You can just tell that every week she thinks it's gonna be her that gets the axe.. and I feel so bad for her because Simon is always picking on her  LOL.... but, like Brooke, I think she's overshadowed in this competition by bigger personalities..and she's great, but just not quite great enough to pull off winning AI.  I feel terrible saying this, because I hate to see her go, but unless there really are a lot of people out there who really think she is one of the most talented in this competition, and she's not getting saved each week because she's hot, I hope she gets booted sooner rather than later, so that someone who really IS more talented and DOES deserve to win doesn't get booted off prematurely by default.  I don't think she needs to win to make it anyway.. I think she's this season's Kellie Pickler.  LOL

Time will tell if I'm right or wrong, we'll just have to wait and see!
