WHICH ANTIVIRUS????

Greetings everybody

recently my computer crashed and I lost all my data, in spite of using couple of antivirus programs. I had no choice but to reformat computer by installing the new system files. This made me to wonder about you guys.

What antivirus program do you rely on?

What precautions do you take to keep your computers from crashing?

Do you rely on one antivirus program? or more?

When and how many times do you scan your computer in a day or week?

How many times do you backup your files?

Where or how do you save all your data?

I am too much paranoid about this entire virus thing and crashing of my computer. I will appreciate your input and comments on this.

I use AVG but I really don't know the answer on which works best.

Thanks Renee, that is what I am doing too keep my computer free from viruses.
AVG has worked flawlessly for over two years for me, and saved me from at least two viruses in that time. It's originally free for personal use, and updates itself automatically, if you set it to. It should be noted, if you want to use it indefinitely, and you have the resources, it might be nice to support the firms efforts by buying a registered copy, of course

I switched to the one provide by my ISP (I can't remember which brand they're using). I had hoped it wouldn't be the same system resource hog as AVG... but it is actually WORSE. I will probably remove it and switch back to AVG - all the computer people I know recommend it.

I have used MacAfee (a pain in the but), Norton (decent program) and AVG (system resource and memory hog). The one I liked the best was a free one through yahoo.

I have McAfee right now because my dial up supples it free....but for the most part I don't have any troubles because I don't let people use the computer and I definitely don't let them download stuff ;)

I have McAfee too. It works well and I haven't gotten any viruses yet :) I do make hard copies of important stuff and back up my computer about every 2 weeks. I'm a little behind on defragmentation and need to do it.

I use Macs, I have for more than 20 years and it has been more than ten years since I have had a Virus on one of my Macs. It has a built in firewall, plus my router has a built in firewall. I have an old copy of Virex installed, but I have not purchased an update for awhile so some parts are out of date.

I am not very worried because 99% of the problems out there are aimed at Windows not Macs.

We have AVG - and we back up all of our files on a site called DivShare. It's free.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about all this. I use my sister's computer while I am living with her, she does all the important stuff. When I am at my boyfriend's I use the library computer.

Renu ~ I've used Norton -- which is Good. I've used AVG ~ which I do not like. And, now I use SPY DOCTOR (free) which I really LOVE.

I use Commodo and Avast both free and both are good, I don't like Norton, or McCaffee, find something that is free and that will suit your purposes.

there are also places like Trend that do an online virus scan of your computer.

GL with this I hope you don't have this problem again.
