My husband and I will be leaving for our 14-day cruise tomorrow. Silly as it seems, (since I could not take you all along), I want to take a symbol of Gather with me.
I intend to use the symbol as the photo star in our travels. Kind of like that Traveling Can of Beans that went all over the world. My first choice was the Gather Mug. But after I found out it would cost me almost $18.00 to get one Gather mug, I nixed the idea. Not that I couldn't afford it... I just hate paying out the money for an item that would most likely get broken enroute anyway, if my previous cruise is any indication. The porters broke my luggage on that trip! Any mug in my luggage would in all probability be reduced to powder form by the time we get to our destinations.
My photo star will be travelling to exotic places with us! I want a sturdy, unbreakable "mascot" that will appear in the photos I take abroad; the photos that I will then post on Gather upon our return.
After a few conversations with myself... (Ina, you can hold off with the shot, I'm fine), I eventually decided Duckieone would go as my mascot. I made my mascot by using a black marker to draw the Gather icon on the tummy of my latest stuffed duck. (What's with that anyway?... I get duck items from family and friends ALL the time!)
Duckieone will be easy to pack, will fit in my shoulder bag, and can travel comfortably without breaking or setting alarms at the airports and check-up points.
Here she is below.

Isn't she cute?

Wish us Bon Voyage!

I thought about a flat sturdy paper doll. But I am not good at drawing at all! So, Duckieone is the best I could come up with, She can be squashed almost flat into a bag or pocket without any trouble. :-)
It's a fantasy filled Comedy/Adventure for Teen/Adults. She has camera equipment that she takes along with her. Here's the beginning...
"All God's Critters"
One day a little black duck named Genie was flying overhead when he spotted a refreshing looking water hole below.
Wow…that looks so refreshing, he thought, I think I'll drop down for a bath and a little relaxation. Perhaps I can shoot some film on all the different critters around this part of the country.
He had been flying through out the Pacific Northwest filming and taking photographs for his friend's new, and up coming movie called "All God's Critters." His neck was beginning to get sore from carrying the weight of the equipment. His last stopover had been on a mountain stream near McCall Idaho, and he was now just overhead of Couer D' Alene Lake in Northern Idaho.
You may be wondering why a little black duck would be carrying camera equipment and making a movie. Those are good questions, and deserve good answers. First let's get him down and rested up, ok?
As he landed in the water, he began singing his favorite song. As he lathered up with mink oil, he sang it, as he had learned it many years before, as he fished with his long time friend Fisherman Rick.
The melody of the song is like that of the old "Swannee River" song.
Only it goes like this…
Way down in de Louisiana Bayou's,
Far, far away,
Dere's wha da fish is always biting,
Dere's wha de big ones stay…
All up and down the Louisiana Bayou's
Crawfish crawl all day
Clean up to De Darbonne Lakeside
I Film's dem critters all day
"Quack! Quack! Quack!"
"What's all that noise?" asked a big old alligator who was resting at the waters edge.
I hope your little Duckieone has as much fun as mine does...
Happy Sailing!

Jay, that sounds like a good book! My Duckieone is just a Gather duck. No competition to your Genie :-)
===
Sandy, thanks we hope to!
Are you sure I can't come along?
I so look forward to your upcoming travel articles!
(not that anyone would want to necessarily)
I hope you have an enjoyable, relaxing trip Duckie!!
===
Lynn, I think my Travel Companion is far cuter than I am!
===
Ina, You know you'd be along with me in a heartbeat if I could swing it! And thanks for recognizing I am still sane, maybe for a "few more hours".
I will miss you, too! *snif*
===
Vicky, even when I'm reading my "dull" poetry book, I'll think of you reading more exciting tomes back home! I'll send you warm vibes. To your Mom, too! Tell her I'll be thinking of her when I check out all those nice butts on the hunks lazing on the beach, ok?
===
Jan, thank you! I was green with envy when you wrote about your own vacation in Nayarit, Mexico. Now I can also warm myself up in the warm rays of the sun in the Caribbean and South America.
===
Madame D. food is going to be a big part of this cruise... I will be sure to bring you back a lot of photos!
===
Robyn, I hope you have a great trip, too! We will be on the Norwegian Spirit which will leave New Orleans on the 30th. Our ports of call include:
Roatan of Honduras
Santo Tomas de Castilla of Guatemala
Belize City of Belize
Aruba of the Lesser Antilles Islands
Curacao of the Netherland Antilles
St. Thomas of the Virgin Islands
Samana of the Dominican Republic.
===
Hey Kevin, thanks! Don't work too hard while I am gone :-)
Who's saying "we" are crazy, huh?
===
Jessie, thanks a million!
===
Dana, we will!
===
Stephanie, this trip is a change of plans for us. My husband wanted to go to Alaska but when he saw this cruise, he decided Alaska will have to wait until next year. He knew I wanted to go to New York for a week-end and this cruise is ending there. It works best all the way around.
===
Jane, thank you. I am quite pleased at how well it turned out :-)
will check up on you in your return.
