What a difference a week makes.
Last week I talked about my apartment hunt in Brussels. I expect to be moving there within the next few weeks (or years, based on the rate I'm getting things done). I showed photos of the apartment I had selected.
But that was last week. This week I'm going to show you photos of the apartment I apparently am switching to. Yes, I changed my mind. I actually looked at four apartments in a building just built, which gave me lots of options. The first apartment I looked at was in this building and I liked it, but it had some flaws that on a second look pursuaded me it wasn't right for me. The apartment I told you all about last week was in the same building. But I had one nagging doubt about the size of the bedrooms. This doubt bubbled to the surface when I was posting the photos in this column last week.
So...(drum roll please)....the following are photos of my new, new apartment in Brussels.
The living room is about the same size as the other, but it has hardwood floors (instead of tile) and is shaped like an L. There are big sliding doors that lead out onto a small balcony - not much to look at from there, but it gives me some light (an important factor in rainy Brussels).

The kitchen (which is around to the left in the photo above) is pretty much the same except for the more compact layout, which I actually like better.

What I really like is the master bedroom, which is larger than the other apartment, and has a door out to a patio.

The patio (or is it a terrace??) gives me a little space outside. Okay, perhaps I'm thinking I might entertain a little while I'm there.

Now all I have to do is resolve the lease and arrange to get my stuff shipped over.
Oh, and in case you wanted to see what the building looks like from the outside, here's a photo:

(Okay, you caught me. This is really Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. How many of you knew it wasn't really my apartment building?) :)
Next week I'll squeeze in a travelogue of some place I've visited in the past. Not sure where yet, but there will be photos!

Love the bedroom and terrace! That was a terrific choice! You can always hang thin curtains to block the view outside the LR. Looking forward to hearing more about Belgium!
Beautiful pics...just as last week :). However, I like this one better. I have a thing for hardwood floors, and terraces! Especially off of the master bedroom. I'm sure it will suit you well.
Nice picture of the Castle. Thanks for inviting me into your world!
Yes, we'll have mussels in Brussels (but probably not Jean Claude van Dam).
Furniture would be nice. Working on it.
Namaste
Those are some big windows! Have you thought about window treatments? Your neighbors windows are directly across from yours.
A few people have suggested I put a table and chairs on the terrace for breakfast, which I think is a great idea.
OH and by the way.... the castle... um.. thats my house across the street from you!!! Come visit me any time. We'll keep the lights on for ya!!!
Your apartment look great, you did fool me for a moment.
But I wished I lived in a place like that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My husband and I visited Bruges while we were there. If you have a chance, check it out - it's such a sweet city with some really interesting architecture :)
This building is new construction, so doesn't have the charm of some old European buildings, but then the trade off is that it's bigger and better equipped.
Snow? I want spring. :)
Then I get to the photo at the end ~ and look at the photo and think ~ oh WOW, I get it, I'd love to live in there! -- Then I see that it is not the Apartment building at all it is Edinburgh Castle in Scotland!!!! ~ YOU FOOLED ME! L O L.
Alright, but really, what was wrong with the one with the BIG HUGE kitchen? It looked so nice. . . .
Blessings ~
Your Friend,
Rene
The kitchen on the other one was nice, but the master bedroom in this one was nicer. Plus a few other features and I decided this one would suit me better.
