Oh man...what a bunch!
We are on the second last chapter of our textbook and still I have people asking me how to do the simplest things... things we have done, now - several HUNDRED times over the course of the semester!!!!!!!!!!!
We change views - from design view to form view; from form view to design view - over & over & over ... I've never counted... but honestly - we do it probably 100x/class ...every time you make a change - change views, check it, change back.
And (this is in MS Access - there are no fewer than 3 ways to make that transition. Honest! There's a button on the toolbar. It is in the Right click menu. And it is in the View menu as well.)
So today - I'm helping someone that was a bit behind:
"Change views"
"Huh?" blank look.
"Change to design view."
"Huh?" Blank look.
I count to 10 - maybe he's just having problems hearing...? processing...? He can't seriously not know how to switch between views at this point of the course. Seriously?!
"Ok - you fail!" I actually had to show him - again - how to change views.
If it was just the one, I wouldn't be so frustrated ...but honestly... some of the questions I get asked... and worse yet, the kids that don't ask the questions - they just totally disregard that their stuff looks entirely different than everyone else's stuff - I do what they need to do on a projector at the front of the room.
They should be able to look at my table and look at theirs and see that they are not the same.
They should be able to look at my form and look at theirs and see that they are not anywhere even close to the same.
And the reality is that they are perfectly capable of it. They just do not care to be bothered. And given that these are Aviation students, I find that very, very scary.
I'm thinking I may never go anywhere on an airplane ever again!

Kids these days!!!!! : )
The routine has never changed. The shoe bench has only been moved twice, and what do they do every single day... Walk around the house in their shoes and then take them off and dump them wherever they are at. UGH!
How hard is it to stop, take off your shoes and put them on the shoe bench?
When I was an assistant engineer student teacher for my school.. I had people asking me stuff about electronics that they should have known quite solidly for the last YEAR of their schooling.. I find it VERY VERY scary that YOUR students could be flying the planes that MINE built!! LOL...

Kids only know how to do what they like to do like computer games, ordering pizza and how to do role playing games, while downloading squeeky yelling stuff to their computers - they don't know how to put a new toilet paper roll on the holder or even where the rolls of toilet paper are.
Oh yeah!
some people are smart in certain areas but in others they go air-head or blank - it's a matter of not focussing...good luck Flit - I'm glad it's not me trying to teach something...but then, I've been there done, that...Salud.
I came to the conclusion long ago that, while I don't consider myself to be brilliant, most people in the world are idiots.
Of course, that doesn't include any of you...
BTW he retired from the areo-space industry and my son is an electrical administrator.
He was happy about it. It meant that he could have a job.
There's a Monty Python sketch called "Bicycle Repairman." It's set in a Super world. One area the Supermen and Superwomen are lacking in is bicycle repair. In the sketch Super people break their bikes. BR fixes them. They say "Thank you, Bicycle Repairman."
My wife taught Autocad at a local junior college for a few years. She also taught it where she worked. She has cluelessness stories too. The scary ones are from her work where mechanical designers and engineers seemed incapable of learning the simplest drafting software on the market.
Umm...Could you expand on that? How do you know that instruction in any particular classroom differs from home schooling in any significant way? It's an interesting assertion but makes no sense in this context.
There's just something about a smart person being stupid on purpose.
