Movie Review: The Ark of Truth

If you are a science fiction fan, you probably already know that the Stargate direct-to-DVD movie is out! Just released is the full film length thriller which picks up where Stargate SG-1 left off when the series ended in the summer of 2007 with Season 10.

If you were dissatisfied with the ending as my family was, you will be happy to know that this DVD episode fitly ties up loose ends when Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), Vala (Claudia Black), Teal'c (Christopher Judge), Sam (Amanda Tapping), and Cam (Ben Browder) search for and find an ancient artifact that can defeat the oppressive Ori.

SG-1 learns that the Ori are ready to launch a final assault on Earth with 7 Ori mother ships filled with troops and their guiding Priors. So the team plan one desperate attempt to defeat these foes by using the SuperGate one more time to enter the Ori home galaxy in search of an ancient artifact that is supposed to be capable of defeating the ascended Ori.

When they arrive they find that the Ori have already been destroyed by the bomb created by Merlin, who had assisted Daniel Jackson in its final construction and sent in one of the final episodes of Season 10. Their relief is short lived as they realize that now ascended Adria has all the collective power of the former Ori--also ascended beings. How could they defeat one powerful being?

While part of the team searches for the artifact, the rest of the team faces more difficulties on board their ship. An I.O. operative they were forced to bring along with them double crosses them and inadvertently releases a bug form Replicator on board! They end up fighting both Replicators and 4 Ori ships which suddenly surround them.

Daniel's team gets captured by Ori troops after they have found the Ark of Truth. They are hauled to a fortified city, imprisoned and tortured by the Priors. Teal'c had been wounded and left for dead.

Just when defeat looked iminent the Ark was opened, one of the Doci experienced a change in heart, which was transmitted through the staffs to the other Ori in the galaxy, Adria was weakened, Morgan La Fay showed up to defeat Adria, and the team was saved. On board the Odyssey, the Ori stopped firing just as the Replicators were defeated. The team returned to Earth just in time to save it from an assault from the Ori in our galaxy. The Ark was used to transmit the Truth to the Prior being held in Stargate Command. The Ori give up the assault.

Business returns to normal.

The next movie-to-DVD is called The Stargate Continuum. Now that loose ends are wrapped up, the "stars are the limit." I'm looking forward to it!
