wild eyes
(v1)
i got one hand on the table
and the other is in the cookie jar
this cake it sits before me
but i got a taste for icing in my heart
i know its wrong, but its not greed
that causes me to sin
its the way your looking at me-
your eyes, they know where i have been and
(st)
i want you to know
that you're always in my heart
even when i cannot let it show
so won't you please try and understand
i just don't know what to do
your eyes they see inside my soul
and i can't picture life without you
(br)
hush, little baby, don't say a thing
just back in that chair right there
and listen to the words i sing
(ch)
wild eyes,
i know that it ain't right
but it feels so undeniably good
when i'm holding you close at night
wild eyes,
tis' a shame it has to be
that while i'm looking at you
there someone else
and he's looking at me
(v2)
what can i say i'm so confused
i try to keep it to myself
i think if i don't speak my thoughts
i can put them up on the closet shelf
but we both know the closet
has never been a good place to hide
either way it's forbidden fruit
either way i'm caught in a god damned lie, but
(st)
i want you to know
that you're always in my heart
even when i cannot let it show
so won't you please try and understand
i just don't know what to do
your eyes they see inside my soul
and i can't picture life without you
(br)
hush, little baby, don't say a thing
just back in that chair right there
and listen to the words i sing
(ch)
wild eyes,
i know that it ain't right
but it feels so undeniably good
when i'm holding you close at night
wild eyes,
tis' a shame it has to be
that while i'm looking at you
there someone else
and he's looking at me

This song starts with great metaphors for young cravings. The "cookie jar" is women, "the cake" is men?
"tis' a shame it has to be
that while i'm looking at you
there someone else
and he's looking at me"
Would that someone else be God? Or society in general? Or just "The Man"?
Do you still feel that way?
hand on the table = lover
hand in the cookie jar = affair
cake = the relationship
icing on the cake = priceless- pwahahahaaa- just joking... the icing is pulling the affair off
as i said, this track was written about an affair, however, i am wondering how much of my subconscious played into writing this because your interpretation makes as much sense to me as the actual reason for the track.
in your analysis you ask is the "someone else"... not a god but those crazies that follow that god.
do i still feel that way? hell yeah.
Oh, I got the icing on the cake pun (not the one you describe). That was pretty clear.
As far as feeling persecuted-- just when I think our society is making some progress in this area, we seem to back-track. But the next presiential election is going to help, I think.
el homo... i agree... ann is GREAT with cross promotion. i love that girly girl! hey and thanx for the compliment! you got a son... rock on... me too. ;)
