a solidier's song
(vs1)
ive always been the type of guy
who doesn't get attached to material things
even setimental memories
never did a thing for me
but i find it funny now i'm looking
at your photograph and i
find i feel a little sentiment
as the tears well up in my eyes
(vs2)
now i know that recent times have not been easy
for you or for me
there so much changing in and out and around
so many changes i just can't see
and i never know what tomorrow
will bring my way
well one thing i know i need you
in my life forever and a day
(ch)
don't you know i miss you
oh i know we're so very far apart
you give my life such meaning
you're tucked away in my achin' heart
all i want is to be together
you know i meant it when i said
baby we'll be together till the end
(br)
and when night is cold
and i'm feeling all alone
i just look to your photograph
and i find my solace yeah
all i want is to be together
you know i meant it when i said
we'll be together till the end
(rant)
you see i got this war that i have to fight
i'm doing things i know ain't right
but i believe in our freedom and liberty
and i think i still believe in democracy
but i'm not sure why we're here
torn away from our families
i know its got something to do with oil,
power and covering up the 'bush' atrocities
but the president says that this is all right
the president says god loves a good fight
the president says gas will be a bit high
the president says that we need to fight
but tell me, what am i fighting for
i'll tell you what i am fighting for
i am fighting just to survive
i'm fighting just to stay alive
because i want to come home
no, i don't belong here
can you hear me, i want to come home
no, we don't belong here
someone send me home
we've done so much wrong here
someone send me home
no, i don't belong here

Good job!
Blessings sweet young man.
most of the song was inspired by a letter that a soldier wrote to her wife. ehem... yes, she is a lesbian soldier.
You've done a good job of putting yourself into the soldier's boots. The second line is a bit surpirsing. People are "material things"? It's true, but a very extreme statement. Perhaps the soldier has learned this during warfare?
"you know i meant it when i said
baby we'll be together till the end"
The soldier expects to die during the war, but is together with their loved one because he/she is in their heart?
This is reminiscent of the Joy Division song "Love Vigilantes", in which a similar story is told by an already-dead soldier.
Possible typo: verse 2, line 1. Did you mean "times" ?
and yes, she does think she is going to die there.
you know, i get compared to joy division a lot... which is really rather strange because i i am not familiar with any of their music. time to expand my horizons, eh?
thanks for the typo alert!!!!!! MUCH appreciated.
I have heard that the movie "Control", about the life of Joy Division's lead singer, is very well done. Maybe it would be a good intro to the band.
hey patricia... thanks for the comment & support. ;)
when did you do this???? Must listen to this song soon. Maybe next time we get together.
