We've had a series of storms track through here beginning late this afternoon. They mainly come across the AL border as heavy rain and seem to start to pump up once they hit the county next to mine (Paulding & Polk). Two of these storms dumped pea size hail here in SW Cobb County. The storms continue to strengthen as they move SW.
News is saying that the last storm was an F2 or F3 tornado that tore up downtown Atlanta and did damage to the roof of the Georgia dome and made a mess out of Centenial Olympic Park. There's a lot of damage in downtown.
The 4th storm just left us about 5 minutes ago and is heading back into the same area that was just hit.
The interstates are closed going into Atlanta currently. No bus service because a lot of the surface streets in downtown are closed. Plus we have tons of people in town for the Southeastern Basketball Tourney.
The 5th cell is just to my West now.
What a mess!

You guys stay safe!
my report was very brief and i just included a link to yahoo's report.....
what a mess and reminds me of damage highwind storms do out my way in WA state
cheers,gayle
Did you tell your hubby that you were already on it? :)
It wouldn't bother me so much... we have family in Tallapoosa, so it's always a good excuse for me to visit, but not in that sort of mess.
I'm just thankful the damage wasn't worse than it is. It's bad enough in rural areas, but just downright terrifying in the city.
Tina, check in with us tomorrow if you have power so we know you're ok.
Amanda, The storm that hit here a little after 6 am, was just a bunch of noise and lightning for me. Not sure if it did any more damage to downtown as I went back to sleep after it had passed.
I'm wondering how Tina is because that system was stronger when it went through the Birmingham area.
The news this morning was awful, though... lots of destruction downtown. Hope you all are still okay, Marianne!
Hey Jax, are you thick of it today?
According to some formula used for number of homes damaged in our city, we were immediately eligible for roof replacement. We hired many reliable roofers and got various estimates. It was worth the mess because that hail had severely damaged our roof!
In the Spring of 2003, I was in an area of Vinings, GA that had a tornado. The hail was the size of ice cubes from the freezer. My car looked like a golf ball. My roommate at the time lost his windshield in the system, as did many neighbors. We had broken windows and the siding on the buidling had holes all in it from the force of the hail that hit it. Pine trees were snapped in half everywhere. The apartment complex had to replace portions of many of the roofs.
I was a nervous wreck all day....lol... Thank you for all the comments on my articles and pictures. I insisted on taking pictures trying to calm my nerves some....lol...
I am never able to get on the computer during the weekend...so I was really hoping some of my Atlanta connections weren't affected by the tornadoes...
My husband even did a television interview about that. I guess they were having a slow news day. I mean, how interesting is a tornado that destroys exactly one very small building and takes away some promotional t-shirts and a few other office items? No one was hurt, injured or killed but a bunch of people at a local shopping mall, miles away, probably wondered why all those promotional t-shirts and a few pens and pencils and a stapler or two were coming down from the sky. I sure would have wondered!
Anyway, all those items came from the sky and they looked terrible, I'm sure, when they dropped on people's cars and the shopping center parking lot - and a few roofs and streets, too.
