We always have an Easter egg hunt in our yard for the kids . Even though I take them to at least one "big" egg hunt in the area Alex insists the Easter Bunny will also bring eggs to our yard on Easter morning -- it's a tradition that she and Mac really like so we stick with it. Even though it means I have to get up bright and early and tramp around hiding eggs :-)
But the kids also end up with a lot of candy between the big egg hunt and the treats they get from their grandparents and the chocolate bunny in their Easter basket (also left by the Easter bunny, of course).
So I'm working on a list of things that I can put in Easter eggs for the kids that aren't candy and would be inexpensive. I thought about small plastic dinosaurs or lizards (which Alex would really like) or small cars (for Mac).
Any other suggestions? I would love to hear them!

Here's things I do:
Bouncy balls
Change (a few pennies, some dimes and nickles, maybe a quarter or two).
Stickers
Bubbles (wedding bubbles fit into bigger eggs easily)
Erasures for school
Rubber bracelets
Dressup necklaces
Little dinosaurs (Walmart sells them in the toy department- $.88 a bag for about 12)
One good section to look is at the dollar store's birthday section. They have lots of odds and ends in packs of 4-12 for $1.
You could also do the egg hunt first, and use it as a scavenger hunt- put clues to finding the next egg/prize AND clues to finding their baskets.

Btw, I love the toothbrush idea! I always put toothbrushes and toothpaste in my kids' stockings at Christmas, but never thought about it for Easter baskets.
