I GOT ARRESTED!!!

Can you believe this...

Tuesday I was driving out to one of my jobs... Which happens to be just down the street from my house when I get pulled over for not wearing my seat-belt... Shortly after the officer takes my information she comes back to my window and asks me to step out of the vehicle... I am patted down, cuffed and put in the back of her police car... She asks me am I aware I am driving with a suspended license and that has been suspended for 2 years... I was like "Well, NO"... I wouldn't have been driving had I known... So I'm booked and held until my mother can come pay my bond... A whopping $124... plus towing fees... Anyways turns out my husband got pulled over with no proof of insurance and they reported it to the state and therefore MY license was suspended in April of 2006... We had gone down to show proof of insurance for that particular incident and tought we were in the clear... Turns out the state lost our proof of insurance and that in turn lead to my arrest... What a crock!! You would think that the people working for the state would have their crap together... Anyways... My license has been reinstated but I still have a court date and I still had to pay towing fees and pay a ticket for driving under a suspended license!! Let's hear it for the DMV!!

Well that sucks. I really have no illusions that the DMV or any state-run body/organization has it's stuff together, though. :P I think they're more likely to screw things up than anyone else. Are they going to wipe the arrest from your record? That stuff can really bite you.

That's awful! I know NJ if famous for losing things like that. My brother-in-law was once pulled over for some silly thing and they advised him at that time that his license had been suspended 6 months prior and no notification had been sent to him. He had to go to court and all that jazz and eventually everything was cleared, but it's such a hassle! If businesses in general ran things the way the motor vehicle departments do, there'd be no businesses left!

It is ALL the state's fault. In court, you should be able to fight it all. Why should you pay for ANY of it since THEY are the ones that made the mistake?

I wasn't scared but it was quite embarrassing... I was just like "You have got to be kidding me"... I screamed at the DMV lady... Probably made an ass of myself but I really didn't care at the time... I had just been arrested...

Wow..that sucks...I would have been super pissed..why in the world would they suspend your license if it was your husband that had been driving without the insurance....score another one for our wonderful government!

If my h Yeah, let's hear it for the freakin' DMV. Geez!!!!!! I hope they paid for every cent of the court costs, etc. You shouldn't have to pay for their idiotic crap.

Welcome to the wonderful world of bureaucracy! Similar happened to me 30 years ago when I had moved to Pennsylvania.

I was pulled over for an expired inspection sticker (you needed to have that renewed every 6 months) and I was arrested for "hit and run manslaughter". The clerk at DMV miskeyed a code when I got my license. They couldn't find any record of the hit and run, but it still cost me over $200 to get a license back and I had to re-take the test (including driving).

I finally got a State Senator to stand up for me and investigate.

Oh man, what a real bummer!!!!! Guess the DMV, police, or whomever, are probably terribly short on funds and needed to make some "fast" bucks, somewhere, somehow!!!!!!
I know the feeling, though, as I got stopped one night (picking my son up at college).......on the way home, here comes a red light car behind me so I stopped....didn't even think that I'd best click my seatbelt.........got a warning for some light being out....then he noticed "NO" seatbelt......I got an $86 ticket....I was so mad, I started crying.........what a rip off..........haven't ever forgotten that!!!!!
Sorry you had to shell out all that money.........it really hurts, too!

Wow, Walker. You never told me that story. I think in proven cases like that, the people who screw up should have to pay all fines and fees.
