I have been getting some very low ratings on some of my stuff and I want to know why... Why give me less than a 10 on any of my things I write.

 

I want to know how I can track this person down.

I want to know how to block this person reading my stuff.

Why would anyone give less than a 10... Gfurrrrrr  people like this make me want to quick gather all together.

I looked through your stuff, Jodie, and it looks like someone has gone through and rated you a '1' on all of the things on your main page, which means that you have somehow probably inadvertently said something to offend someone or make them mad, or for whatever reason they have taken a dislike of you or something. Who knows. People are strange. Sometimes I think somone has a bad day and goes around low rating things to make themselves feel better. Now why that makes them feel better is beyond me, but different strokes for differen folks, I guess. I get a low rating occasionally, and I just try not to let it get to me. When they see an article like this, then they know that they have gotten under your skin. I just shrug and go on about my business. It sucks, I know, especially when everything you post is perfectly fine and deserving of a '10'. You've just got to try to not let it get to you. As far as I know there is no way to know who gave you the low ratings. Don't let this make you quit Gather though! There are more good people on here than the cowardly low raters I think.

This has been happening to a lot of people lately, myself included. Don't let it bother you. You earn the same amount of points regardless of the rating your content has been given. So think of all the points you earned off of this loser :)

I wouldn't worry about it, people are going to low rate all the time here. I usually don't allow ratings, that's a way to stop them if you want.

this happens to a lot of us, hon...every click on your article will bring points, so don't sweat it....just hang in there!! usually the low rater doesn't seem to know you, so it is not alway personal...just an angry, pathetic soul... :)

I got hit again gurrrrr... I work very hard to make my site a good one. Most of what I write I have someone look over it to be sure it is good and to fix any misstakes I may of made.. ( thank you Victoria)

It makes me so mad that someone would give me a low rating and not leave a comment to tell me why..

Wow. This seems very angry. I'm new and somewhat nervous yet about publishing here. Are we not supposed to rate below ten? I've been giving tens (actually I've forgotten to rate all but a few. LOL!) just because I'm nice, but I imagine there are people who rate less than 10 occasionally. I'm really confused about this issue. It seems that a rating system is in place for a reason, yet I've seen a few articles complaining about this. Should I give tens every time even if I don't like the content? I'm missing something here evidently. Maybe I should just not rate content? I think people have a right to be honest in rating my work and I hope they are because that's how we learn. Maybe I'm stepping in poop where I don't belong or know what I'm talking about. LOL! Forgive me if I have. I just need to be clear what's acceptable around here so I don't make someone mad.

A  troll ( as some of us call this persons or low rater ) is someone who rates low on good things or everything you have.

I say give what you feel is fair to the writting or photo. Do not give a 1 to someones baby photos that is rude. YOu may give a low rating if it is of a naked kid, or is of something that upsets you. But what I am complaining about is someone gave all of my stuff I one. Photos of my family ( good clear shots) and articals that I wrote and they didn't say way.....

When people are looking for things to read at the top of the page it has a listing for highest rating not the lowest. So people will not be comming to see my stuff now. I talk to everyone I am all over gather... Points here and here... but now I don't have that good feeling that I use to get....

I have noticed that a lot of people aren't even allowing ratings any more because of this very thing. Just ignore them. It is annoying but it really doesn't effect your points so don't worry about it!

I was hit at least twice on my Ballad of the Low Rater poem, but I expected it. I agree this is so immature but there is no way to track this person ( persons) who seems to get their jollies from low rating others !
We should all band together and be Drive By High Raters for each other and I'm on my way to your photos right now.

One jurk is not worth quitting gather. Most likely someone with nothing better to do. I went in and rated the stuff I had not rated yet. I didnt leave comments just ratings. I left a comment on the one I already rated.

Jodie, I don't understand why anyone would go out of their way to rate a person's article or image low. It seems to me like a negative, power surge behavior. I do think, and I need to listen to my own words, that letting the person who rated you low know that it upset you only makes that rater feel more in power.

It will only hurt gather.com when a number of those type of individuals take over. I would register a complaint to gather if that negative practice continues on your published items.

There is no way for you to know who is doing this to you. There could be a reason or no reason at all! There are SO many immature trolls here on Gather that get their kicks by rating people low.

I don't know why people do this! I have noticed I have been getting some lower ratings too. It doesn't make sense. Why are some people so mean and hurtful?

Well, my Daddio put it best when he said "You'll find your jerks online, because they can hide behind their computers."

I've been attacked by a DB1 person awhile back. It sucks, and I do believe I even ranted about it. Though now, with as many as there seems to be on this site it's just... "ehhh... whatever". I would suggest try and shrug it off, verses nit pick at it over and over, trying to figure out why they do it.

As they do it, because they can hide behind their computers, and be jerks without anyone really knowing who they are, or what they really are like.

Don't quit Gather!! Not allowed! lol. Just think, to ever 1 jerk, there's like 10 - 20 groovy people! :D

Low rater is giving you points. the rating means nothing. the clicking on your articles gives you the points. the only time a rating means a thing is when you are in a contest that depends on points to win.

I still stand behind the idea that if some immature person is on gather giving out bad ratings, gather needs to be aware of this problem. As a retired software consultant, I know they can track who is giving comments and ratings on each articles. They probably do that already.

I think that gather should have a way to see who and what you rate just like you can view people comments! But that's just me! sorry you got hit! I give you a 10 and hope it helps!!

Gather allows ratings on a scale from 1 to 10, and there's nothing necessarily bad or mean or hateful or evil about using the entire scale, including those down at the low end. Not only is there no reason why Gather members should feel in any way obligated to give all content a 10 rating, that actually defeats the point of the rating system.

According to the Gather FAQ, 10 should be used to rate "some of the best content you've seen." From that, I gather that it's entirely reasonable to give a 1 to some of the worst content you've ever seen. And all the numbers in between are for content that you feel lies somewhere between those two extremes. Different people have different systems, and lots of people have no system at all.

Gather's Terms of Service say that members aren't allowed to in inappropriate rating of content. Deciding that you don't like a person and giving all of their content a 1 rating might be considered inappropriate, but giving the content a 1 rating because you think it's low-quality content isn't inappropriate. In fact, it's using the Gather rating system just the way it was intended.

Wow, I have never heard of such a thing. I'm sorry that this happened to you. I don't know if anyone else has suggested to you in private or in pings to NOT ALLOW ratings on your published works. Perhaps that will eliminate the problem.

I'll keep you in my prayers and affirmations and will hold the TRUTH for you that this will cease and never happen again. Let it go for now and breathe easy knowing that your gather friends are going to watch out for you.

I'm sorry you're getting hit low :( It's happened to me too, in fact yesterday to two of my things. If I were posting something I wanted a true rating on like my writing a story or whatever, then fine rate me whatever but if I'm posting something that is of my kids, then what the heck is someone rating those low for.

Some people just get an itch that they don't like someone for some reason, or they see something that you've posted and decide they don't like that and rate you low. Or the people who think "only serious stuff should be posted on Gather and not fluff" may rate people low too. Personally I think it's people who are unhappy in their own life and want to make others unhappy too.

Don't quit! Some people are just mean. You still get poitns for those low ratings to try to ignore them if you can. easier said then done...I know.

We all have people we make mad at one time or another and we get low ratings. I've got one right now and I think it's someone I kicked off one of my groups for posting stolen (internet) photos. I don't let it bother me and I know it doesn't hurt me in any way so I hope who ever it is is enjoying their Gather time.

Jodie, There seems to be a real jerk floating around that has no (excuse my french) BALLS to post comments after or with their wasted #1 ratings. I think Gather should at least make it so that if someone votes under 5 their name is an automatic showing and they can't delete it. You get their name and what they rated. I think that's fair. I hate when I get low ratings too. Could block the ratings all together but that defeats the purpose of getting points. Either that or just make it a #1 to rate and that is the only number available to vote. There's something they can do I'm sure.

Just don't let it bug you too much. I have put blinders on most of them so I don't get crazy. LOL

I wouldn't give it much thought. I've gotten some lower ratings but photos I thought were excellent or for things I wrote. Different strokes for different folks, I say! You can't love everything that everyone writes or shows you.

I wouldn't have revenge on this person. If you really want to know who and ban them, that is up to you. I would just ignore it. No one is perfect and not everyones work is genius.

Life is too short to be bothered by this.

thank you for all the nice words... Something I have noticed is that if a person says something good they give a 10, but if a person says nothing than it is more likely that is was less than a 10 they will give. hummmm wonder why???
