Deb, Sara is just slightly older. Sara moved in about the same time as Petra, who passed away about a year ago. Although Petra was very sweet with people and with Sara, she was violently dominant over Lucy. I think Sara may have gotten the message that Lucy was cattus non gratus. The two tolerate each other fairly well, but they're not chummy.

I think Sara would feel too vulnerable inside the nook, Melissa. She does own a couple of cat beds in the house, though.

Jessie, I think Lucy knows that Sara wouldn't really try to hurt her. In this incident, she didn't even hiss. She just waited for Sara to make her point and move along.

LOL, we had an incident like this last night at our house. I emptied a case of Snapple and the box the bottles sit in was ready for the trash. I knew the cats would love it for a while so I threw it on the living room floor for them. Well Missy found it first and proceeded to curl up and get all comfy inside. Along comes Fuzzy and boy was he jealous. He jumped in and was antagonizing her to get her to move. She tried to stand her ground. He's younger, but so much bigger than she is, and has a determination that just doesn't quit. He won and chased her out. He was in there a whole minute before he abandoned the box. He didn't want to be in it, he just didn't want her to have it. They're a riot.

That's funny, Nana! I guess cats are just basically territorial, and that influences a lot of their behavior. Whenever I get a shipment from Amazon.com, I usually leave the box out on the floor for a couple of days. Sometimes I sprinkle in a little catnip. When the cats have lost interest (which they always do), I toss out the box.

Cats are funny people. We have 3....sometimes they all tolerate each other. Walker picks on Puzzles who hisses at him and usually leaves the area. Oreo and Puzzles play like kittens. Oreo and Walker are nap buddies but take swats at each other now and then.

That sounds like a normal situation with cats, Deb. Seems like even the best of cat-friends will have a spat now and then.

That is too funny! Poor Lucy! My 3 babies are quite comical too. Riddick is just a jealous baby, and he REALLY does not like it when I am loving on Kyra. He and Kyra are not really friends. She always smacks him when he gets too close. Kyra and Tombs are perfectly fine with each other. Tombs and Riddick are brothers, and get along just fine, until they start playing and with Riddick being so big...that always gets brutal!

That's wild, Tess. I've had major and minor feuds among my cats for a long time. I guess the only time I had complete peace was when I had my first two cats, who were sisters. I recall visiting an animal rescue house and walking into a small room with about a dozen cats. I was amazed that they all seemed so relaxed with each other.

Poor Lucy, but sometime it's funny to watch how cats interact with other cat, they sure treat human differently - like they never meowing to other cat, juts meowing to human.
