Orphaned Baby Squirrels

A few years ago my brother was working at a local supermarket. While he was walking through the parking lot discovered 2 baby squirrels under the wheels of a parked pick up truck. Concerned that they would be killed he scooped them up. They were so tiny and so very hot from laying on the hot tar of the parking lot I was suprised they were still alive. I wound up caring for them for about 2 - 3 weeks until we could get them into a rescue center.

They did well being feed from a dropper for the first week the it was onto some real food in addition to the formula.

It was such an awesome experience and I was happy they were able to go to the wildlife center...though I did miss them very much.

I'm attaching some pictures of the babies..we named them Moose and Squirrel, lol!

Oh, they are so sweet! You did great keeping them alive and then raising them. I know it must have been hard to let them go to the wild life center.

Good for you. We rescued 2 baby squirrels ourselves about 15 years ago. But we didn't have a wildlife center to send them to. We had to completely raise them until they were ready to be on their own. What a challenge. (Especially since we had 4 dogs and a few cats.)

My step-mom worked at a vet and she brought one home to take care of. . . we named ours Petunia. It was really sad when we had to let ours go.

they are so cute, we had squirrels when I was growning up had a blast with them they came right into the house when we called them, mom didn't like it when they slepted in the clean clothes basket.Thanks for bringing back memories

Beautiful experience.

A few years ago, my husband and I adopted a one week old abandoned kitten. Her name is September and she is now almost 7 years old.

We also rescued a female squirrel with two broken hind legs. We got her to a vet and a wildlife rehabilitator, but she died within 24 hours of shock. I worried that she might have little ones, but we never found them.

Anyway, good job. I am glad there are people like us who care about animals.

So nice of you guys to save them! I found a baby ground squirrel once and took him home. He was a wonderful pet. I don't think he would have been able to make it in the wild. We loved him dearly.

They are so cute. But with my luck, I'd be like Mathew McConaughey in "Failure to Launch" when the chipmonk attacked him. If you haven't seen that movie, you should. It is pretty funny!
