Easter is so early this year that I was wondering if there would be any Spring flowers up in time. I needn't have worried - they've even beaten the Vernal Equinox this year. These are some Narcissi and Crocuses along a south-facing wall on Old Beach Road:

This Canadian Goose paused in his meal to pose for me down on the dike around the Big Pond behind Easton's Beach:

On Easton's Beach I came across this poor Bluegill washed ashore. It probably got flushed over the dam on Big Pond during the torrential rains Saturday. The salt water killed it (it's strictly a fresh water fish) and this is where it ended up. The gulls don't seem to have gotten to it yet.

I found this Moon Snail shell at the end of the beach part of the walk. You can bet that this one came home with me.

Back in town and almost home, this carving on a gable end on an old Shingle Style Victorian on Kay St. shouted "Pick me! Pick me!" It's little touches like this that make Newport what it is.

And back home!

Jennifer, those aren't wildflowers, those are your usual garden variety Narcissi. A couple of places around town I've seen Crocuses, but this is the first time I've seen those white Narcissi up. And I've seen some yellow Daffodils at least budding if not yet blooming. As for wildflowers, in this part of the world we won't see any of them until well into April.
