Hi Gather buddies,

Want to get rid of some larger items?  Don't know where to start?
Take a look at this article I wrote on that very subject.  It will point you in the right direction.  I have found that many people do not know about this local resource, they only think of the auction sites.  This one, however, is free and much less hassle.  Enjoy!

Yes, spring cleaning time, Another good way to get rid of the good stuff is to list on freecycle.org.

I know about Craigslist but haven't used it. I've found there are consignment shops locally where I can get rid of all kinds of stuff, even household items BUT not large ticket items.

Spring cleaning -- I'm holding off until I see proof that it really is spring -- it's been a long, miserable winter and I want Spring now. Then I'll spring clean :-)

I usually donate mine to a charity and take a tax deduction. They pick it up so its a lot less hassle for me.

I just cleaned out my closet so I have a TON of clothes to give away! I could take it to Goodwill but I really wish I could give it to somebody I know needs them!

I hope you find someone Michelle that can use them. I give to charitable organizations too. But when I took someone who really needed some clothes to one of the places, you have to buy them. So no money, no help. We give this to help those who cant help themselves. If they could afford to buy clothes, they would do it. Maybe just advertize on Ebay or Craigslist for a quarter an item. Find where people ha ve lost their homes, etc; I have decided that charity is best when you give straight from your hand to the one who needs help.

Sorry Kim. I am on a roll today, nothing is like it should be. I just happened to be here when the way the world is getting so bad, just hit me like a lead balloon. I do gi ve to charities, but feel so much better when I can know who needs what and see that they get it.

I've been doing a MAJOR spring cleaning at our condo here in FL...it's been six years in the making. When I first walked in this year I said, "This is the year to weed things out!"

Interesting answers. Sounds like we're all under a bit of stress. I too have had some weird stuff with craigslist, so be careful. I mention that in the article. I suggest definitely meeting in a safe, well-lit place. But if you cannot haul the item, then make sure someone is with you when they come to pick it up or look at it.

On the other hand, some people were really nice! So, who's to know for sure.

Shelters can always use stuff, I know, I used to work at one. We'd get in stuff by the bag full. That was long before craigslist. I think there's a place to GIVE away free stuff on there, just look for it.

Did you read Flylady? She also has a website http://www.flylady.net/
She's wonderful. I have tried her methods and many are good. I use the ones that work for me. Her book has a section on what to get rid of and what to keep.
She says you don't have to do spring cleaning or fall cleaning, as with her method your house is always clean.
