20 Days remaining until Earth Hour on March 29, 2008 - when cities around the world have committed to turn of their lights for one hour to demonstrate their commitment to - and concern for - the environment.
87,641 people and 5,438 businesses have signed up for Earth Hour 2008. One thing I am very happy to see is that a lot of Canadian cities and towns have signed on. The Canadian government might not take its responsibility to the environment seriously (they don't, as a matter of fact) - hopefully, the fact that so many Canadians are participating will provide them with a glimmer of motivation to smarten up!
I don't much care for this week's Toronto Star Earth Hour challenge - it is just to resolve not to fly anywhere for March Break next year. Since I don't normally fly anywhere - for March Break or at any other time of the year, doesn't seem like much of a challenge to me.... and I really think they should be sticking to things that people can actually do - now - to make a difference. But oh well, they didn't ask me what I thought (or I would have told them, of course!)
Anyway, since I didn't like that one, I decided to go back through the Go Green Tips of the Day - many of which I'd missed - and make sure I was doing as many of those as possible - AND that reminded me that we have yet to place our tree order! And that made me very cranky, as I went to look at the website to see when the deadline is and turns out we missed it - it was Feb. 29 - darn! Will have to find another place to get them. Poor planning - the Severn Sound Environmental Association in this area does a lot of great work - and part of what they do is provide trees that are native to the area for sale at a very good price. Oh well... my bad.

and the Green Party has got my knickers in a TOTAL knot these days... how DARE they refuse to have anything at all to do with Earth Hour - won't even add a link to their website (they have other links re: environmental issues)? what the heck is that? I've voted for them in pretty much every election that I have voted in since they've been around - will seriously be rethinking that.
Blessings ~
