Geneva Auto Show goes Green

France24 has an interesting article and video about new e-cars being presented at the show.

What are your impressions of the single-seat car? Would you be willing to drive it down a road at 70mph?

What about the other small concept cars? Do you see them as practical on American roads?

I'm 6' 2"- I don't fit into a Ferrari (otherwise I'd have several, I'm sure). I think it would be hard to drive without extra capacity for a couple of people. My schedule is pretty complicated and often involves transporting kids, not just my own, plus musical instruments, often with little notice.

I'd be happy to go to Geneva to try them out, though...

I hope we do not need to move to miniature cars to get good mileage ... I don't fit either (though I try to stay with compacts). But I agree with James, Geneva is tempting ....

No, I don't think I would drive such a car. I really wonder when our government and business leaders will stop with their hot air about going green and actually do something practical.

Don't wait for Washington. The ones that can hurt Washington are the truckers. Refuse to deliver goods for one week and Washington will hear from all of us. Then they will do something about the cost of gas.

There have been rumours about truckers striking over fuel prices a long as I can remember. The last signficant one, if I recall correctly, was in the fall of 2005.

I think you're right, Jean, it would bring a lot of things to a halt. I don't know what it would do for fuel prices, however. Perhaps it would encourage more use of rail?

I think we would all be better off with these if they had special 'commuter' roads for them. With all those trucks and SUVs, though? Too scary!

Then again, bicycles would be pretty neat too, if it didn't rain 10 months of the year here.

Fascinating, Debra! The "Smera" gives new meaning to downsizing. We should all be so petite as drivers and passengers! I'd rather have one of Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion cars, however (Flash Gordon for the jet-set with three wheels and a stellar aerodynamic shape).

I wouldn't ride in anything that small, but I do think they are cute. You mentioned truckers striking over fuel prices, and I saw some doing it the other day. I hope it helps, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm surprised when I see some of these small cars in person -- just started seeing SmartCars on the Denver freeways -- I'd hate to be hit from behind, but the compartment looks like I might actually be able to pour myself into it.
