I know that requesting prayer for a dog sounds rather unusual, especially in light of the fact that many people tend only to share those requests that are of a "life and death" nature.
While I would not go so far as to categorize this request as such, I would go so far as to state that this is extremely important to my mental health and well being. Let me explain.
I suffer from some mental problems known as anxiety and depression; to the extent that these problems significantly impact my day-to-day functioning on my job (as a public school teacher) as well as a husband and a father. Those who do not view mental illness as a handicap have never been afflicted with one.
Having a dog would do me a world of good. In addition to providing me with the type of companionship only "man's best friend" can provide, a dog provides unconditional love, as well as something to look forward to, in an otherwise hum-drum existence. Dogs add life, color, and dimension to life. Dogs are good for people, and people are good for dogs.
My wife is having trouble adjusting to the idea of an animal occupying the same domicile as she does. Although she can intellectually see the many benefits a pet brings to a family, and to me in particular, she is unable to get past the fact that a dog, after all, is still an animal.
I have acquiesced to her request to allow her "as much time" as she needs to adjust to the idea. But I also feel that I, too, need time considerations as well. This dog, for me, is not just a hobby like, say, stamp collecting. Having -my dog will be something along the lines of a balm for the soul. I cannot wait indefinitely.
I would like my friends at Gather.com to pray that my wife would see how needful it is for me to have the companionship of a dog, and to be able to get past her own idiosyncratic reasons for balking at the idea of allowing a pet into our home.
I know this type of request is unusual; but I am desperate. I have told my daughter to pray; I have filled out a Prayer Request prayer card at church, and I have taken the drastic step of broadcasting my vulnerabilities on Gather.com that I might touch one soul who could "stand in the gap" and intercede for/with me.

thank you for some wonderful suggetions and some wonderful prayers. i am starting to believe that i will be able to get a dog. i know that the things which are impossible with men are possible with God. i have to keep on repeating this to myself. i've seen God do some amazing things. this is such a small request.
You somewhat accurate, resident psychic, and prayer partner.
From the day it started and we were bought our first dog (FINALLY) my mother purchased a maltease (Spelling and I am too lazy to fix it) They dont shed at all and they have no dander..
Then came another dog, another Maltease..
Then a couple years later came a minature dotson..
After 20 years the first Maltese died..
And then came our newest addition, another weiner dog..
In our experience the smaller dogs dont tear up as much, less of a clean up, but their companionship isn't any less.. I couldn't imagine our lives without them.. There is no one else so happy to see you evertime you walk in that door.
After having the first two, my father told my mother NO MORE DOGS.. Suddenly two more arrived.. Umm there both his girlfriends and follow him just like a dolting girlfriend.. One likes to go on car rides and helps him in the shop..
I wish you luck and prayers that you will get that little doggie who will save you a thousand tears and the ones that do fall the doggie will lick them up...
1Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
The REAL Jesus would never talk to someone like that, mister.
thank you for the psalm!
I forgot your flower.
We don't have our dog anymore, but we had her as a member of our family (not an animal, as we never thought of her or any others that shared our lives that way), for 17 years. She brought us more joy than I can ever tell you. You certainly have my prayers for your dog, maybe even two!
Unconditional love and dogs, cats - they know how to give it and are always there for you.
Mark (and Marilyn, who's not online right now because I am!)
I hope you get your new pet! He looks adorable!
But also you might try looking up a book I saw on a info ad late one night years ago.
I thought it was a crock they were selling some sort of a program to help with panic, anxiety and depression. But out of not knowing what to do I looked it up online just to see, because I do not like drugs and was tired of it.That info ad was a life saver for me.I have been panic free for about 5 years unless something major happens and I forget to breathe. The book is called "From Panic To Power" by Lucinda Bassett this doctor went through all of this herself, before she was a doctor. Which is why she became one. When she went through this panic stage doctors did not know much about it.Sorry so long but I had to share.Hope you are well.
