Yes, I actually LISTENED to almost EVERY SINGLE entry.
One thing I noticed is that there are a few artistis who have really racked up the votes. Some of these artists are truly talented and some of these artists are not. I understand alot of this is a popularity contest rather than a songwriting contest.
Here is a really good example, I heard and watched an entry from a band called, "The GoStation" posted by Doug L. Look, I hate to admit it but these guys, in my opinion, are by far the most talented, marketable artists in this competition. The fact that they have 2 votes and then there are some artists that have 200 to 600+ votes and have about as much talent as a cat being slowly strangled is kind of sad. I have nothing to gain and everything to lose by promoting another artist like this, but damn... 2 VOTES?!?!? There is some real crap on here that has better than 200+ votes! Come on people of Gather... Do the right thing and vote for some talent!!!
I know there are alot of entries in this competition and it can be extremely time consuming to listen to them all... ehem... it took me everyday for about a week... but there are some real talented folks in this competition and many of these truly talented artists have little to no votes.
PLEASE FOLKS!!! If you wanna vote for your favorite friend/connection that's great, but PLEASE ACTUALLY CHECK OUT & LISTEN SOME OF THE OTHER ARTISTS AND IF THEY HAVE TALENT... VOTE FOR THEM!!!!

We have not seen the 200+ votes on some but others have quite a few in such a short time this contest has been open, I wonder how they are going to figure out who is actually getting real votes,but just like all these other online battles its a popularity contest.We are new here so we dont have alot of friends accumulated but we have posted links around to other sites we are on.
I have a question,, do you people rather have an mp3 to listen to or watch a video? We have a video added and are wondering if we should have just added an mp3.

Some of the people that I've gotten reminders from, I went and listened and frankly, they sucked and I told them so but much more nicely.
Will check out the band you just recommended when I'm done typing this. I haven't listened to all that many because most of the ones I clicked on sucked, a couple had nice sound but their song was booooooooooring and overall it takes way long on a mid-speed cable connect. I'm not paying for high-speed again, too expense for my daily usage.

i think what gather.com has put together is really awesome, but the "unfairness" lies with those who are voting for the wrong reasons.
and that in itself is not necessarily 'unfair.' everyone has the right to vote for whatever reason they want.
i simply wanted to try to remind folks to vote for who they think is really talented along with their friend/connection. that's all.

Right now I am in the midst of moving so my time on Gather is limited. I don't have time to listen to a lot of songs. The reason I listened to yours was that I had read your articles and I really liked them. I figured, since you were literate and articulate, you might also write a good song. I was right!. I really liked the song so I have been making the time to vote for you each day.
Now I am getting connection requests from people who have never posted a thing to Gather. They are just in the contest. No thanks. My main focus on Gather is writing — trying to improve mine and finding time to read good stuff.

I respect your stance on this and further commend you for your hesitence regarding self-promotion. I won't comment as to the contribtuions as I've not listend to them (though I will do my best now; I really had no idea this contest was going on) but I can say without hesitation that this is the most mature and sincere argument I've seen here in quite some time. Stick to your guns when it comes to your integrity.
I'm sorry if this has been a disappointing experience for you. It's typical of Gather - friends vote for friends, and for the most part don't care about quality at all.
I listened to all the entries that called themselves blues. One song was actually a blues. The others included hip-hop, modern country, easy listening, singer/songwriter Americana...
I've seen this before on Broadjam where about one song in ten labeled as blues by the writer actually is.
Oh, talent? I dunno. In the blues group I didn't see much. There wasn't anything that was early stage American Idol bad but there were poorly produced recordings with second rate arrangements, limp vocals, and banal lyrics.
Anyone who wants to get revenge on me can listen to my audio stuff. I forgot the contest entry deadline and was too late to enter the stuff I already had posted here.
