Now with the new "Guthrie" update involving being able to create friend "sets," you might want to first sort thru and purge some of your friends that are either no longer on Gather or haven't signed on in many, many months (or years). Here's how:
A relatively easy way to do this is to go to your "My Friends" page. Then click on the drop down menu "Sort by" along the top right side of the page. Then choose "recent sign in." This will bring up a list of your friends in order of their most recent sign in date. Unfortunately you can't go immediately to the last page of the list, but click thru the pages until you get to the last page.
Now you will be able to go backward thru your list of friends and check to see when they last signed in. Obviously the ones at the end will either be closed accounts or people that haven't signed in for months (or even years). So click on each person in your list holding down the "ctrl" key, which will open the person's page in a new window. Check to see their last sign in date, etc., and decide if you want to keep them as friends or remove them. When you are done with that person, just close the window. Go back to the window with the list you were working with, and do the same thing with the next person in the list. By opening each person in a separate window, you will not have to start all over going thru the page of friends to get to the last page.
I think you'll be surprised (as I was) in the number of friends you have in your list that have closed accounts or haven't signed in for many months and maybe years!!

I tend to weed regularly, but thanks for this efficient tip for doing that!
Here's a way to help speed up the process...
After sorting by login date, add &num=100 to the end of the URL (web address) on your "My Friends" page, and press the ENTER key. This will increase the number of friends displayed from 20 (the default) to 100. You may change this to any number, allowing you to more quickly scroll through all of your friends.
You may also display ALL of your friends on one page!
I just leave them be. I guess if they haven't signed in for 6 months or more.......... but I have a couple of Gather friends who haven't been on in a while and I'm hoping they come back. Sometimes "things happen" and they are gone for a while and then suddenly check back in one day. I know someone who did this.
Gosh, I hope no one purges me. I don't always Gather politely. Sometimes I just randomly surf around and find people I didn't know existed. I always eventually come back to my friends though.
I understand what you are saying, though, Sue. For those who want to do this, it's a great tip!
Again... I'm talking about people with "closed accts" or haven't signed on for many, many months or years.
i'll check it out... Blessings...

I know I was off line for a few months handling some major life events and came back to discover a friend count that was lighter than when I left. I was a little perplexed by that. Now I don't know if it was part of a glitch or people disconnecting from me because I was "inactive."
