Just came from Sheryl O's page where a post about blasphemy laws in the UK has moved to an Intelligent Design versus evolution debate.
These always remind me of the fundie who visited my UK blog and told me in no uncertain terms he is not, absolutely not descended from a monkey.
"I replied, "I agree, you're not. But keep working on it and in a few million years your descendents might be.

What amuses me about that argument is that it shows how very little they know about the evolutionary process. We did not evolve from monkeys.......we AND monkeys have a common ancestor way, way, way back in time where a split of sorts occurred and time and natural selection did its work to further differentiate the species, though really not that much considering that we share a great majority of our DNA. Of course, to understand this, fundies would have to believe that the world is more than 6,000 years old. That's the first rub right there.
The scientists say there is something like a 99% commonality between us and the Bonobo... a rather promiscuous ape!
The real answer of course is "No, we did not evolve from monkeys, both we and monkeys evolved from microscopic blobs of jelly.
But this is gather, I didn't want to push things too far.
Not an ostrich I think but a similar creature that buries its head not in the sand but up its own arse.
Thanks
We need a few laughs after recent threads.
Bonobos are promiscuous but matriarchal and peaceful, rather like stone age tribes. Chimps are less promiscuous but patriarchal and violent rather like modern theocracies. Anthropologists consider Bonobos further along the evolution path than chimps.
Where did it all go wrong for us?
Some of my best threads are sparked by tongue in cheek posts like this.
You may not have to come back, there is more in the escape velocity theory than reincarnation. Life expectancy is increasing faster than time is moving forward.
Our ancestral chimps. I like that. Actually when I think of the way chimps pick nits out of each others fur it makes me wonder, as Fundies are so fond of nit picking, do they just deny evolution because they have something to hide?
Thanks, that would rate a 10 if comments were rated
Stick with me, you will learn about British humour.
RULE 1: There are no rules.
RULE 2: Don't spare anybody's feelings, if they can't take a joke, tough.
Right, you have to be albe to take it on the chin and laugh at yourself. People are too sensitive theese days.
I try to make them my trademark.
So exactly what will humans evolve into in the next million years?
