Poesia is looking very unpregnant these days

I haven't given up hope, but it's possible that I should. As the days draw closer to her so anticipated April 10th due date, Poesia, our older buckskin Peruvian is looking very unpregnant to me. I know the old girl so well. I have had her since she was a weanling.  She usually doesn't show until near delivery, so all these months I have eagerly awaited her due date believing with her that she had concieved. She loves to be pregnant, and is a great mom. It's a sad thing to think that her breeding days are over. This spring may very well be foalless again, but if so Anastacia or Sonata will surely bring us a Favorito baby in 2009.

I'm sorry, especially since you said she's such a good mom. How old are mares generally when they can no longer breed? (Just curious -- I've never thought much about it before.)

ah... I know you're disappointed, but at least Poesia is healthy -- hasn't miscarried, but simply isn't pregnant, right? Perhaps, with so much else taking place, it's for the best? By next year, you'll have some well-trained little helping hands, won't you?

Aww. I hope she finds a baby to be grandmotherly to until next year's "crop" comes through. You and I both know that grandmothers have so very much more to offer.

Sorry about that, Debbie. Nature doesn't know best (or in the sense that "she" does, that "best" in meaningless in human terms and might be substituted by "worst" or "nothing" or "fumfeediddledeedum"), but there will be babies one day, if by a different mare.

I know Poesia holds a very special place in your heart. I've heard so many of your Poesia stories. I love to watch your face and hear that special tone in your voice when you talk about her. We all would love her to be pregnant but, if not, we love her just the same.

Aw! Hopefully, it'll work out and she'll either surprise you, or one of the others will end up with a baby at some point soon.

As I've recently come to learn quite well, baby horses are entirely too lovable! And rather addicting to be around...
