Mystery Flower Identified at Last!--

Oddly enough although I have posted the photos on Gather and asked many people, the positive identification came through a book called Wild Places that I was reading with my 6 year old daughter for homeschool.  The mystery flower/tree is--drum roll please--

A Cannonball Tree!

I'll have to make a trip back to Holetown in a month or so and see if I can get a shot of it with fruit.  Thanks for all of the comments and guesses, everyone.

A cannonball (grapeshot) is about the size of a softball.
The flower is very pretty, but the fruit should be something interesting to see hanging of its vine.

It's amazing the variety of flowering trees here. Most are from Africa or South Ameica but we have some exotic asian tropical varieties as well.

The weirdest thing to me, Lance, is that the flowers and fruit grow directly on the trunk of the tree. I'll bet the fruit will be something to see. I'll have to go check now and then to make sure I don't miss it.
