I saw a number of new movies this past weekend.
The first was "Firewall" with Harrison Ford. Josh & I started watching it and both said "I've seen this before." We didn't remember the movie AT ALL, but both remembered the opening scene. We decided to stick with it until we remembered something. That didn't happen. Apparently we had previously watched the first scene, and for some reason not finished with the movie. Anyway, the movie was extremely suspenseful I twice had to grab onto Josh, like it was a first date and I was playing the meek girl. But I was really scared! It was free On Demand, so we didn't pay for it, but this is one that would have been worth the $4.99. Not Harrison's best (and does anyone else think he now looks like he has a purpetual scowl?), but he's Harrison, so he's still a fav. Paul Bettany is good in almost any role he does, so it's always a treat to see him.
If you like action-adventure & suspense, this is the movie for you. Not too violent/gory either.
To get over the suspense of "Firewall," we decided to watch a stupid comedy. Every comedy On Demand was about weddings, which Josh wasn't in the mood to watch (he's a guy, what can I say?) so we went with "Evan Almighty," starring Steve Carrell and Morgan Freeman.
Now, I think everyone can agree that "Bruce Almighty," with Jim Carrey, was a success. Original, funny, charming, etc. A good, funny movie. When they announced a sequel, I knew it would not be as good (despite Carrell's brilliance and talent). When I saw the previews, I thought "this looks so stupid." But I still wanted to see it because, let's face it, Morgan Freeman rocks and it's an interesting concept. Plus, I was in the mood for a stupid comedy.
And stupid this was. There were definitely funny parts, and it's an interesting idea (what would YOU do if your spouse came to you and said "God came to me and told me to build an ark"? Can we say insane asylyum?). The movie has some great actors - John Michael Higgins (love him!) and Wanda Sykes, and the ever-rising Jonah Hill - and some great lines. I don't know if it's worth the $4.99 we paid (good thing we have a free coupon!), but it was funny. Be prepared for stupid funny if you watch.
Yesterday I started watching "Enchanted April," which my TiVo had randomly recorded. Over halfway into it, I realized I wasn't really invested so I deleted it and switched to "Murder at 1600" with Wesley Snipes and Diane Lane. I've definitely seen parts of this before, but didn't really remember it.
Very similar to "Firewall" - action, adventure, suspense, conspiracies, etc... A bit more violent though. I am a big fan of Lane (and have even been told I look like her) and Snipes is always fun. It's 11 years old, but is still appropriate today! I enjoyed this one.
Happy movie viewing!
