Celebrate the art of breathing as if it were purest gold
Or that of a fantasy wrapped up in silken rainbows
For what isn't there to love as the dawning fills up your eyes
Or to hear the sound of your lover and see birds in the sky
Let each awe of life overwhelm you and let your river run
Into the vast mighty oceans to sail under warming suns
Recreate all the goods times as if the world was standing still
Awaiting you with a welcome where flowers sing songs until
The sun says nighty night and in the horizon makes it bed
And the stars in patterns brightly shining dance above your head
Oh silvery moon you are there counting up the pleasant dreams
Saying my prayers of thankfulness I lie me down to sleep
Glorify that simple and let the abstract winds stand and peep
Over your shoulder giving hints; subtle searching must dig deep
Past the boundaries and firm edges and the partitioned walls
The ball rolls on forever past craggy slopes to where water falls
For illusions can be sketched and tamed where your reach might mellow
Like a vista from the mountain side for your heart to follow
Carefree does the wind blow over stream, nook and every cranny
Rise up rise up in belief spontaneity is fanning
The rising flames you shouldn't miss as they sparkle with wonder
Yes there inside abiding like the tides is life to saunter
With abandonment, sweet abandonment let such freedom fly
From your voice, from your pen, serendipity feels distant sky
Fountains overflowing in sublime awe of simplicity
Always in the air we breathe yet tactual touch never seems
Clever enough to capture the swirling wonder of this air
So foundations built upon plans and schemes makes it disappear
One must wander through forests of abandonment in belief
Trusting such splendid effervescence to commonly release
A bit of sparkle and magic dust our inner soul just needs

Your poem is music to my ears. I hear your call and I'm coming.
With abandonment, sweet abandonment, let such freedom fly....
I'll lift my glass to that and shout a loud YESSSSS !!!
Methinks that you're back to good health again. Well done Bill.
Your employment of images of natural correspondences as signs of wonder to visualize as metaphors of freedom and abandonment is very effectively done here in many places, especially with the blowing, swirling wind, William.
I also think your use of long meter couplets to advance the poem´s argument of cultivating a sense of the marvelous, in vision, breath and touch, works on the reader´s consciousness in an exalted, musical fashion.
I came away from reading this verse of the ¨sublime¨with a feeling of incandescence.
I loved this line '...release a bit of sparkle and magic dust
our inner soul just needs...' simply marvelous dear man.
It makes me want to rejoice in living.
Lots of great lines here, but I think my favorite is the opener - "Celebrate the art of breathing..." How relaxingly perfect.
So expressive and passionate ... soothing the way your words flow. A wonderful combination of lyrical and descriptive power.
Yes William - don't we all need that!
Blessings to you and yours always... love

Very nice piece! I can't write like that because I'm the engineer/firefighter you complimented on back in December 2007! I've tried to write many articles regarding 9/11, and our government in general, and usually only get a few responses. Americans in general seem to want to forget the pathetic investigation of 9/11. I assure anyone who wants to open up their minds to the dastardly government we now have, you will find massive amounts of proof of government coverups regarding 9/11. While I have no definitive proof yet, other than melted steel, and free fall collapse, and piroclastic flows, it is my belief that either the CIA or FBI or a combination of them, actually carried out the 9/11 attacks or were conspirators. Why else would the FBI confiscate ALL videos from businesses around the Pentagon, and never relaease them! I'm not a conspiracy theorist per say! I'm both a firefighter, and structural engineer who knows with 100% accuracy that the twin towers, and building #7 did not collapse due to fire.
Anyone who thinks the Pentagon is not protected by a missle defense system is fooling themselves! The Whitehouse also has a missile defense system! A whistle blower will come forward eventually, but it will have to be someone with no family, and they will be on their death bed! Most folks don't realize the absolute genuis of the 9/11 attacks! They wiped out all Enron files in building #7, they wiped out all Pentagon spending files at the Pentagon, where over three trillion was missing! They destroyed all asbestos filled buildings in the WTC complex that would have taken billions to clean up! They gave Silverstein a 6 billion dollar settlement on the WTC complex which he took out a policy only months before 9/11, and made sure he had a terrorism rider on!
His cost? 15 million dollars, and a lease agreement! Folks, the twin towers were marvels of engineering, but they were asbestos laden nightmares! ALL sprayed on fireproofing was asbestos laden! ANY first repsonder to that site should have been warned of major asbestos in the buildings! The clouds we all saw in the collapses were most likely at least 10% asbestos! And yet no warnings were given to first responders!
Juliani is a crook, and should be tried for crimes against his own firefighters! No firefighter should have been allowed to even enter those buildings without full SCBA gear on, and nobody should have been allowed onto the collapse site without the same beathing protection!!! The asbestos is still probably blowing around in the air there!!
We have yet to see even one fragment of the plane that crashed in PA or the Pentagon on national television! And no complaints from the media on this? Isn't that beyond bizarre considering ALL major plane crashes are usually reconstructed by the NTSB!
William, I really like your writing. Thanks for recommending that I reply to here, and maybe send a few folks back to my large library of rants about government, war, and 9/11. Please visit my writings folks. We need to investigate 9/11, and the illegal wars we are in!!!! We are not living in a democracy any more....We are in a facist state at best....Good luck to all of us!!!
I'm so excited to hear that you are going to get some poetry published. That's wonderful!
I was just perusing your list of articles to see what I hadn't read. I know I read this early but the first line jumped out at me now. I was thinking of so many of the patients on my unit in the hospital who could relate to this line in a totally different way. Many have various lung diseases and they WOULD value the act of breathing as if it were pure gold.
Sorry, that's totally a different direction than your poem takes but it just came to my mind.
