"Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise."
Have a super weekend

the only ones that give up don't know who they are,,, Bless you my dear,,,
But, as much as I admire the poem, I would disagree with the idea that narrator is flawed - the narrator like the rest of us clings to ideas about self - ones that conflict with the truth.
I disagree with him insofar as I think poems are meant to serve as true barometers of poets´true states of being, which we readers identify with--there is no ¨Brechtian alienation effect¨in a poem.
Right now I don´t feel strong enough to stand up to my wife, I don´t feel well enough to drink my cup of coffee....I´ll I feel okay about is reading this poem, and saying, she feels like I do.
And Gretchen, you express it so well.
