No, this isn't some bizarre new feature -- just letting you guys know about something I did today.
I've occasionally noticed on the comments of articles by certain people, a note saying that they're no longer Gather members -- in specific, that people whose Gather name is bordered by 0000- -0000 are those who have deleted their account (or whom Gather has deleted).
Since I wasn't sure about this, I'd been leaving the content in question alone -- but I had an opportunity to ask about it today, and according to Gather, that's indeed what happens when a Gatherite is deleted: all comments they have made are removed from all articles, but any content they have submitted remains in any group to which it has been published.
So, to anyone who told me so, you were absolutely right, and so I've gone through and removed their content from Comment Speedway.
(This also means that if you want to leave Gather, you should probably delete your content first, because by default it will remain on the site even if your account is deleted.)
Anyhow, thanks for letting me know, guys!

I didn't ask, but I'm guessing the counterpoint to that would be 'well, what about people who create Gather accounts and then use them to send out spam comments'? That seems to have become a minor trend lately, and I imagine it's easier to remove 'em en masse than to assign someone to handpick through and determine which comments should stay or go ... either way, nobody wins.

Hehe, every little bit helps -- although lately, we're actually clearing content faster than we're adding it, due to the awesome participation from our members. ::salutes::
Now I know! Thanks!
