Feb 29th egg

Bill found a huge chicken egg -still very warm--in the hen.house this morning, Feb 29, 2008:

 

It is 7 7/8 inches around, 41/2 inches long and 21/2 inches wide  compared to the other egg this morning that is 51/2 inches around 21/2 inches long and 11/2 inches wide.  Have you ever??

Whoah, that's a JUMBO, jumbo egg!!! I don't think they make egg cartons large enough for that one.

Wow you must have really healthy chickens LOL. Our hens lay norml sized eggs but sometimes we will get a large one. But I can say that I have ever seen one that big before!! Wow you shuold contact guinness world records hahahaha

If you want to try to save it and the shell is already cracked, you could blow it out. I've done that for Easter Egg decorating with the kids (learned it from my mom who did it with us). When the shell hardens, poke holes in both ends and BLOW (gendly, but forcefully. Takes a lot of lung power)! Then clean it out really well. When it dries, then you can shellac it to protect it if you want (or even decorate it!).

I wonder if it's a hen laying her first egg....When I raised guinea pigs, the first litter of some of them consisted of a single baby of massive size, usually stillborn. Not that there's a connection between a hen and a guinea pig. Just thinking out loud.

The hen that I think (they all look alike) laid the egg is up and walking about so I guess she is okay. Bless her little heart.
