I've just started getting The Green Guide by National Geographic and it recommends using 1/2 cup of peroxide for laundry instead of bleach. Has anyone tried this and does it work? Is it more cost effective?
Here is what it says about bleach:
*In 2005, chlorine-based bleaches caused 19,581 poisonings in U.S. children under 6 years of age, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers. After disappearing down drains, chlorine reacts with environmental organic matter, creating harmful organochlorines such as dioxin. In 2000, testing found high levels of dioxin in San Francisco Bay fed in part by bleach from residential laundry use.

What are the OxyClean products based on? I know it's not bleach. That might be a peroxide thing. I find it hard to believe that 1/2 cup regular peroxide is going to do much ...
I use Biz. It works great on organic stuff (not as well on grease).
I use it as a mouth wash every day.
Thank you so much!
